I'm novice photographer. My general software for post-processing photos is CorelDRAW. Also I try to use Photoshop. But I got a problem with .cdr file. Since today it has started opening with message "The file is corrupted". I don't have any experience, what to do with such messages. Pats, I hope there is a solution to help me. I would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to TP.

I'm guessing a .cdr file is the 'normal' file format for Corel Draw and that Photoshop is not able to open such a file.

While in Corel Draw can you save files in a different format that Photoshop can read?

Is it since today, trying to open with CorelDraw? If CorelDraw won't open its own files, it will be down to the file or the drive it is stored on. I would making a copy of the file using Windows (not CorelDraw) and try opening that copy with CorelDraw. If Windows cannot copy the file, that would be further evidence that the file is corrupted.

If it was Photoshop not being able to open a .CDR file, it will not say the file is corrupted, it will say it is an unrecognised format.

Hi & welcome to TP

Can you clarify,

Are you saying a saved .CDR will not/no longer open in Corel draw or that message (unusually?) shows if you are trying to open the .CDR file in Photoshop.

Plus is it the one specific file i.e. other such files open ok or all .CDR files???

Sorry can't help with your problem, but what a will say is never try any editing on the original photo. Always make a copy and work with that. Should you have problems the original is still there

If CorelDraw is saving as a .CDR file, it cannot be overwriting the original Raw or .jpg file, so Nat's originals are safe and sound.

As I understood your message, CDR file is corrupted. If so, you may...
- use Google search on phrase repair corel draw file or similar phrase, usually it help to find something worth
- other way might be CDR Online Service from Corel Company, now it is in test mode, just try, I hope it assist you
