:bang: I was using my 400D downstairs this afternoon while changin over the lens i noticed a dog hair was on the inside of the viewfinder how it got there i don't know i only changed over my lens all of 5 seconds, anyways I had to get it out and it was lodged right in the top corner of all places were my rocket blower wouldn't remove it.

Anyways i goes and get my lint free cloth places camera on kitchen table cover up the mirror so not to touch it puts the cloth round my finger and gentle remove it, great i thought it out.

So sticks my 17-40 on and to my horror tons of fiber particals are now on the viewfinder and the bottom AF focus lights have gone really dim GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE, I wouldn't mind it was suppose to be lint free cloth ie no fiber bits:thumbsdown:

Now Camera still under warranty should i get it sent of to get it serviced if so which is the best place to send it to in the UK & will they replace the AF screen & have it like it use to be.

Can you not use the rocket blower for the rest of it? Just take your time and let gravity do it's thing?

tried it pretty much stuck on there, the problem is that the AF lights at the bottom have gone to the point were i can't see them anymore they were ok before i stuck my finger in there.

Sounds like you have damaged the focusing screen. I may not be right but if I am they cost about £20 for the 40D so its not going to break the bank just very frustrating for you I guess.

Maybe worth seeing in you can contact Canon in the UK (via EOS Magasine site) or talk to your local shop.

I may be wrong, but thats what i think.

Good luck

Rob

Personally i think it would be better just to get it sent off to Canon service center and let them sort it out. even thou camera still focus properly knowing that something not working like it use to is enuf for me not to want to use it.

if it goes to Canon you may well end up with a large ish bill as they are not cheap, as they may not fix it under warranty if someone has had stuff inside it.

Hmmmmm then i might pass it on to my brother then, and lay some money down on a 40D and this time be extremely careful with it when changing over lenses in the house & away from the dog.

Just one thing to check have you moved the focus screen at all, it may be slightly out of align and not seated correctly causing the focus points to not light up correctly, the focus screen just clips into possition, check out your destruction manual or the net for pictures.

It could be worth a try, as i doubt you will have damaged anything doing what you did. but you may have dislodged it slightly.

if not try getting all the bits out, and when its clean send it to canon, for the focus illumination to be fixed.

Is it still under warranty?

Yeah it still under warranty, but as somebody said above they may not sort it out.

We are talking about a 400D here :) We don't want Ste trying to lever out his focusing screen

Aren't they the same as the 1 series then ?, as that's all I use.

I'd chance a bit of warranty claim, not a lot to lose..and maybe asort out for nil expend

sounds to me like you want a 40d anyway, so pass 400 to brother and upgrade
