I'm not really frustrated. I love my Canon cameras. But blimey, getting the metering to work on my TLb was taxing. It's supposed to meter wide open, and indeed it does. But it relies on the shutter speed to get the needle in the zone. I finally realised that you have to lock the aperture into manual using a little lever on the back of the lens. So it's actually metering stopped down I guess, which is contrary to what the manual seems to suggest. The effect of which is that it responds as you might expect with the aperture having an influence. It's not really a problem, now that I know. I suppose it doesn't do any harm to have a little vent though. :D

TLb ?

Not heard of that one , Will look it up

I have a Canon Ftb from the 70's which has not been used for over 25yrs.

Just to check is your lens an FL or FD? Only the FD lenses have the cam that tells the body what aperture it will close down to. FL lenses have to be metered stopped down.

It's the FD lens with the breach lock. I don't think the instruction manual is that clear, to be honest. To me it seems a little misleading if you follow it to the letter.
