my pictures are in a right old state:bang: on my computer, there all over the blumin place.

is there a program that will take the images from my computer, and arrange them into new dated folders, for each day etc.

or am i hoping to much, and im jsut going to have to do it all manually.

Picassa (free) does a similar sort of job, it arranges them in a sort of date order, and also finds pics from all over the place you "mislayed"

ive jsut downloaded this wayne, and while is does arrange them into order in picassa's playlist, im really looking for somehting that will sort the windows files also.

picassa may do this, im jsut having a look about, its still finding images.

i dont have light room :(

i have cs4 ***

You can get a trial i think - it will do 90% of your processing and 100% of your organising - a great timesaver - and works semmlessly with PS

Lightroom will do exactly what you want. Download the free trial, let it sort your images, then you can uninstall it and go back to CS4 if you still think CS4 is best.

ok ill have a look

but i might need a quik step by step if you have time ?

By the time you import all the images into LR you'd probably be as well renaming your folders. I use a hierarchical structure which is sorted by date e.g. I have a folder called 2009 and in that the folders are named 2009-01-02 (Year-month-day) followed by the subject name, next folder would be 2009-01-06_subject name etc etc. It's an easy way to keep your files organised and you can see at a glance when a shoot was and what it was.

Hope this helps.

i cant even figure out how to import every picture like picasa does

One folder at a time. You don't need to re-arrange your folders - just catalogue them - then Lightroom will find any picture - by date/lens/camera/keyword etc etc

ok will it be able to sort them so if i go inot my pictures they are in dated files ?

arghhh this is retarded, there must be a simpler way.

you can sort them in lots of ways - you can import them to new folders - named as you want - you can import without moving them - and then find them by date/camera/lens/keyword and lots of other ways - you can label them - give them star ratings - you'll always find your pic - once catalogued - only move/delete/rename them from with LR so the database always knows where they are. Well worth the initial time to get it going.

Take a moment to read the manual - it is simple - trust me!

ok so to start with i need to manually import every image taken ?

no - you need to import every folder which contains pictures you want in the catalogue.

If you want to PM me your telno I'll call and talk you through it.

thanks very much awp (sorry dont know your name)

i think i have found the best way, i have started to systematically export all my images to my card (cut) then download them again, and bridge date orders them. may take some time but its going well so far.

kjsut alot of waiting, not alot of effort.

thanks for all your help though, greatly appreciated.
