Hi. I think I know how my newly acquired Argus 300 slide projector slide mechanism works. But, as it happens I've been unlucky in that mine is faulty.
I've figured that you push a slide into a sort of holder as shown in the picture. And when you pull the slide mechanism "out" it places the slide in the correct position for viewing. When the slide is "in" the light is blocked. Kodachrome paper-framed slides fit into the holder, but it's pity that this mechanism cannot accept 35mm slides with plastic (thicker) housings.
As far as I can tell, the slide mechanism is complete. However, my slide mechanism is faulty because there is a flat spring that should press down on a slide, but it's broken - it's too short and slides bump into this spring preventing the slide being shoved into the holding part (without some fiddling). I suppose it could be fixed, or that part (i.e. the whole slide mechanism) obtained.
