Hi All...

OK, I have asked Marcel and have his permission to use this thread as a starter-for-10 in order to gauge if there's enough interest from the good folk here on tp for me to be able to book a studio for a day, probably somewhere not too far from Bristol - together with a few models of course - and to hold a Studio Model Shoot session.

I am more than willing to organise this and to make all the necessary arrangements, and also to provide the initial funding to secure both the studio hire and models for the day, but I'd obviously first need to ascertain the level of interest from photographers on talk photography who may like to attend. There are a few costs associated with this type of event and I am only looking to recover these costs; fyi - this is not a commercial venture.

As per the poll you see here, I am looking for a certain level of commitment before I am able to book anything. I do appreciate that costs/prices and dates are all important when considering such sessions, so as such I have created a multi-choice poll for you to use to provide me with your thoughts and feedback.

incidentally: The reason I ask about payments is that if people are willing to pay a little more, then we could possibly get away with having fewer attendees during the day... it's all about economies of scale.

Hopefully we can get enough people interested.

So, please have a read through the questions in the poll and let me have your thoughts by posting in it too... thanks all.

John

Poll added, I've made it multiple choice, and public results :)

Done :)

Thanks Marcel for creating the poll for me, you're a gent!

@All: I know Lee and rwotton have done so, but can I ask that if you do answer any questions in the poll, please can I ask that you also make a reply in here otherwise I won't be informed there have been further interest. Many thanks folks...

John

I was interested right up to that point - soz m8 - just too damn far - good luck anyway

i voted.

I was really up for meeting a few of you for a photo outing, then a curry and a beer. Now I am s**ting it a bit as I feel that a studio with models would be well out of my league. I have zero knowledge and close to the same ability. I dont really have any interest in shooting models, and certainly no experience, but I cant turn down the opportunity to meet you guys and gain some knowledge, especially if its in my home town.

PS. dont be tempted to move it closer to those cheeky London types, they have loads of meet ups over there. Keep it West Side ;)

Hey full auto - thanks for voting and we're gonna definitely keep it west side!

Don't panic about meeting peeps - it will be my first studio session too... :)

John

If I can be of any help please let me know, there are variosu good studio's around and I can probably find some good models for you who won't bite (unless you ask them too).

This is supposed to be a good studio: http://www.pixel-8.biz/

I'm the same as Dave, Bristol would be slightly too far.
Maybe somewhere a bit further north, Nottingham :bonk:

I voted from the main page, but now i see its near Bristol... and that sounds a long way away, im not so sure...

Off to Google.Maps....

210mile each way, count me in. :) Well count me in if its a Weekend in Jan or Feb and I pass my test. :p

Thats the spirit Darryn...

@All: I will be posting regular updates to this as soon as we have a level of interest that makes it viable. Cheers all...

Coming down from Leeds which is a trek, I've done a lot of work in Bristol and know I can get down in good time if setting off at 4AM - LOL!

If we can make it an all day event, that'd be awesome

Hey Lee

I do plan to have models available for at least 6 - 8 hours which I hope makes a whole day...:) As long as we have enough members there to cover the costs for their time, then we're OK... :)

Depending on exact location, timing etc I'm interested.

So long as some of you guys are willing to help out with some amateur questions (don't worry -- nothing too basic!)

Sorry - voted but just noticed its a long long way off - in Bristol.

Good Luck :)

Maybe we can try this a bit further north - somewhere like Glasgow perhaps ;)

Glasgow.. hmmm... Off to google maps...

213miles, sounds good to me. :)

I wonder where else is 210miles from me, if i told you, you could trianglate my exact position and id be scared.

You're in Colne, lancashire :wave::wave:

I don't need triangulation to work that one out. There's an easier way :geek:

I might be interested although "studio" means flash head, etc. and that leaves me cold. If there's a chance for some natural light stuff mixed in or alongside the lighting work I'd be more willing.

Also, might be worth editing the first line of msg #1 to read

THIS IS TAKING PLACE NEAR BRISTOL
so people can feel they've done a proper job of ignoring the relevant information :D

Well, I love the idea, specially if there are people willing to help others learn. Unfortunately I'm a poor student who works weekends and lives in lincolnshire, looking at 5-6 hours each way on the train.
I think the idea is great, and good luck organising it. It would be nice to see other meets in other parts of the country too.

Changed me mind now:bonk:put me down for this little soiree..did someone mention beer and curry:banana:
yep - you did... :):) Sounds like a great idea that...:)

UPDATE: I have some provisional dates and prices that I will announce soon, just need some more numbers of people who can attend - but these are this side of Christmas and close to it too! If we can't get enough peeps this side of Chrimbo, then we'll move to Jan/Feb.

So far we only have 9 people who are willing to commit to attending, and I'd need a few more than that if I am to front the costs for the models.

I would be interested depending on dates.

I'm in the South soon so Bristol is good for me at least!

I've been talking to John about possibly having this at my studio. If that's what he decides is best then I can tell you that even if you come along with no experience or knowledge of studio work and lighting, you'll be just fine. Hell, you could even turn up without a camera, all the help and any kit you might need will be available.

.....and if it does work out to be at mine, the post code is SN11 8JS. About 45 mins east of Bristol, 90 mins west of London and 20 mins south of Swindon.

It most certainly what I want Dazz, thanks so much for this superb offer. The good news folks, is that this is closer to London than I had imagined so maybe some of you good folk who thought it too far might now reconsider...?

Cheers.

I've just been chatting to John about this and it's going to be a really good day, whether he can make it happen this side of Christmas or not.

A great opportunity to come along, have play in the studio, learn and shoot, relax and laugh. Looking forward to seeing you all. :D

UPDATE: I have some additional details for you all now i.e. a possible date and certain venue. Please drop me an email if you are available for this date:

Date: Saturday December 15th

Time
: 10:00 through 18:00

Sessions:
All day sessions: We have limited the number of places for all day sessions to a maximum of 8 people. Price to be determined, and depends how many additional people we get through the day to cover the remainder of the costs for models; but in the region of £60-£70 for the day.
Hourly sessions: Times available between 10:00 through 18:00, probably two photographers shooting at the same time, shared through the hour with up to 4 people. Price: again, depends on the final level of commitment, but likely to be in the region of £20 (and you are likely to get a little more time too!)

Location
: Calne, Wiltshire. Google Map here

Please can you let me know if you are willing to commit to this event on this date at this location, and I can then confirm and book everything.

This has the possibility of being a cracking day, I've been chatting with Daz, and he has kindly offered the full use of his studio and equipment (list and pics to follow). There's indoor studio gear, and there are several locations very close (yards away) that provide wonderful opportunities for outdoor shots if anyone fancies a go at that too. We will have the services of two models for the day, so this is easily accommodated.

It's really a fantastic opportunity to come along and meet fellow tP'ers, learn loads, and most importantly... have some fab fun!!!

Look fwd to hearing from those who want to attend soon. Cheers all...

John

Is anyone else coming from London?
Maybe we could share a car? I'm driving there and be happy for others to jump in if we all chip in for petrol.
Or if anyone else is driving from London, maybe I could jump in with them?
