Sorry, bit dumb today

I need to write a letter to local businesses requesting sponsorship for the upcoming season for our rugby club but I'm not great with asking for things that way

hi kelack dont know if this will help explain who you are ,the aim and if they would like to help sponser club how the club is going and in return have there company logo added to billboards and news letters ,programs and invatation,-s to a couple of tickets to home games once they agree . Just a note i helped a youth club many years ago to get sponsership for equipment and they are still sponsering them now 20yrs down the line .GOOD LUCK and hope this helps.andy:thumbs:

Thanks for the advice Andy, I had that in mind (about how club is doing, where we want to go), it's just getting the wording right. We don't have tickets for games as we are a lower league club. I should have also said it's for a single shirt so there will be a framed picture on the wall with their name on and when we do programmes for the VP lunch matches, they'll be in it

I gained sponsorship for my sons team some time ago. Simply put, whoever you approach will need to see the benefit from their side.

This could mean free entry to any black tie do's (or similar) that you have, free advertising on your literature etc. You need to find somebody who will see that they can benefit from providing you with money.

Do you have anyone in the club that's close to any larger local businesses who can help from the inside - that's always a good place to start. Don't forget to remind them that there is a tax payback for sponsorship too.

I work in Sales/Marketing, and receive a lot of such letters :)

Like it or not, the objective of a business is to make money. If other positives can happen along the way that's great, but making money is the goal. So any approach should have that in mind, by building the letter around what's in it for the business. In these uncertain times the "making money" part is likely to be far from easy, so the "what's in it for them" needs to be carefully judged.

I would suggest also to consider which business as appropriate to send to. My own company sells a non-consumer product to a world-market - i.e. no-one in the local area even knows what we make, far less would buy one. So while I may love to sponsor a local club, there can be absolutely no gain for the company by, say, having our name on the shirts, or around the stadium. So a possible proposal could be as a venue to hold a company dinner, or reward employees (with tickets), or...whatever you can provide which would benefit the company.

Generally people who receive such letters don't have a lot of time to consider in detail (i.e. that's not their main job), and will receive quite a few letters or calls (from my experience), so having a good angle and clear message will be a big plus.

Good luck!
