Are there any false DPD collections happening?

Yes
I'm selling some photo equipment to a well known buyer. They arranged for a DPD collection and I've had emails about the collection.
The DPD van turned up at the end of the 1 hour window. My wife was at home, handed over the box, the driver scanned the label and put his own label on and took the box. No receipt given!

7 mins later, another DPD driver turned up in a silver van to collect the parcel. He knew nothing about the other collection

My wife immediately contacted the buyer who thinks it must be a double booked collection but the second driver has immediately logged a 'nothing to collect' on the DPD system, there's nothing on the DPD system to say our box has been collected.

Anyone know if there's any scams going on at the moment. It seemed very convenient to turn up just before the real collection and not log the kit in, when the other driver immediately logged a non collection...
We're told to wait as the box will get relogged at the depot, but at the moment I'm in limbo with an expensive box of photo kit missing.
Our house insurance say they won't cover as we gave away the box...

How would scammers know you had a collection booked?

DPD driver tells someone who collects it just before? He can then claim quite rightly the parcel wasn't there to collect.

Or am I just being paranoid?

A bit quick off the mark here I think, the first bloke has plenty of time to put your pickup into the DPD system.

I think you're just being paranoid. I've had plenty collected without getting a receipt. I suspect it was probably just a double booking. You probably won't see any tracking update until it reaches the depot.

DPD bought out interlink a while ago and ran them as DPD home (blue livery) but have recently rebranded them all the same. We still have two sets of DPD drivers doing the rounds here and now and then I have two DPD deliveries delivered by different drivers on the same day. Talk about efficient.

It does sound fishy!

Fwiw couriers I have noticed do not always turn up in "branded" vans.

Two things occur to me ~ yes, the buyer (a company?) indeed somehow double booked a collection........surely their audit log will confirm that double booking?

Secondly, there is a complicit fraud being committed by the drivers.......and/or the dispatcher?

What would I do in your shoes ~ put in writing to the buyer to confirm one way or the other if they entered a double booking for collection. At the same time and bearing in mind that AFAIK couriers are GPS tracker, notifying the DPD uk head office that you are concerned about the situation and can they confirm that two couriers stopped at your location. NB as you are not the customer you may not a barrier talking to DPD..........in which case the onus is entirely on the buyer company!!!

All this presupposes that DPD show no evidence online that it was collected........by the depot 'goods in' scan.

PS on a sidenote ~ I sent a letter 1st Class Signed For to a PO Box (NHS department). I chased the Post Office to learn that it is just possible the way such post is received/delivered it might not be signed for! I left it a few more days and called the NHS department.....and they have indeed received it - phew!

Signed for or Recorded Delivery as they used to be called, don't appear until they are delivered, but with such a delivery point
as a PO Box for NHS I would daresay that they do receive a large volume of mail and as such not every individual item is always scanned

It's still not logged by first driver (too early for depot?) but was immediately logged by the second as not picked up

You're probably right and that was my first thought, but then that little thought creeps in...

I recently sold some gear to MPB and had 2 boxes collected by DPD, the driver gave me 2 receipts with tracking numbers on them, the transaction went OK and was completed within 8 days, so this may be a scam.

I dont think the first driver would have took the trouble to scan it and then attach labels if it was a con .. he would have grabbed the boxes and done one . go on the MPB thread on here and have them chase it up.
although the second driver SHOULD have got straight on the phone to his depot to report it

Just a thought, if the DPD scan system is same as RM, a second scan for the same code would cancel out the first,
but as the second driver had nothing to scan unless he had the code on his paperwork, it may still turn up at the depot

I've asked for receipt of collection when handing over to DPD drivers for MPB, every time they say "We don't do that" - which is odd to say the least. But, it's always made it's way to it destination. It would have to be a very elaborate and specifically targeted scam for them to not only know you had booked in for collection at that time, but also - were they not wearing DPD uniform? Was the van completely un-marked? They wear red jump suits when they collect from me, and DPD is on the van, I think one time it was an un-marked white but the driver had the uniform.

Can't understand why your wife didn't ask for a receipt?

Having her hair done at time at the time and didn't think - we've a lot going on with father in law in, in a care home, had a mini stroke yesterday. Driver turned up in the right time window, was expected etc
I'll see what turns up today. Hopefully the parcel has been traced and it's just a DPD systems issue

Secondly I've not mentioned the buyer as I don't think thats fair. They were excellent at reassuring my wife yesterday

And buyer has called - they've traced the parcel - it's been shown as delivered to the depot - panic over and one relieved wife.

Thanks for posting the update.......a positive one too :)

When systems such as this one we rely "throw a wobbly" it is disconcerting as to what the heck has happened and how will it be resolved...!

We have had them arrive 2 days on the trot at work for a non existent collection this week. We do often have collections for various customers but nothing in the last fortnight for them...
