Are my prints expensive?

Yes
I recently took some shots of a statue at a football ground, I got good feedback from quite a few people, so I decided to try and sell a few, direct to fans of the club involved.

I didn't want to set my price too high and scare away potential buyers. I set my price at £14.99 for a mounted A4 print, with a further £3.99 for delivery.

If anything, I think my price may be quite cheap. The feedback from people seems to be that I'm too expensive, although they like the photograph. A few people are saying that they wouldn't pay that when they could go there themselves and take the photo for nothing.

Considering the money spent on kit, travel to the location, printing and mount costs, charging any less wouldn't be worthwhile in my opinion.

What's everyone elses thoughts?

I suppose it's about finding a market for my prints, and a football website probably isn't the place I want to be!

Cheers

Dave

That is quite cheap, at least in general terms....but people are right (without seeing your photos....) they could go and take it themselves!

Perhaps it might be worth sending it to poster companies etc and see what they say??

Doesn't seem an unreasonable price. Though the problem isn't setting a price, it is marketing and selling the prints at any price.

I think it all depends who your market is. If it's wedding photos then I'd say that was cheapish. You have a captive market and the photo won't be able to be reproduced.

For a photo of a statue at a football ground you've got the kind of reaction I'd expect. The people you'll be selling the print to would only be fans of that club and I'm not convinced it's the sort of thing a football fan would want to buy, particularly at a shade under £19. Look at the market, it's mostly young to middle age men. The ones that are single most likely wouldn't bother to hang that sort of thing on their walls, the ones that are married will most likely not be allowed to hang that on their walls. I would guess you're more likely to make sales as posters at somewhere nearer a fiver. It's difficult to comment really though without seeing the photo.

That price seems reasonable, especially for a mounted print. All depends on your target market I suppose...

Nail on the head there I think - being both a football fan and young(ish), I probably wouldn't display it even if it was free no matter how good the image was. I'd much prefer to wear the current strip.
