Went into town to buy a couple of rolls of HP5. Called in at Boots. £9.99 a roll but the queue was a mile long and only one person serving. Decided to try Max Spielmann. £15.99 a roll! WHAT?
Back to Boots and waited patiently, having saved myself £12.

Assuming 36exp 35mm, I just checked my two local shops: £10.50 and £11. A bit different from the 6/9d it used to cost (for HP3 admittedly :D).

According to the Bank of England inflation calculator, that's a real increase of nearly 2X (if the increase was only due to inflation, it should be around £6.50) :exit:

Just had a quick search; fotospeed.com have it for £8 plus postage. Unless you are one of the few people who live close to a proper camera shop, online suppliers are usually cheaper, if you buy at least five rolls to make the postage cost worthwhile.

Mind you I remember when Boots had 3 for 2 pricing which just about made them competitive.

I suppose diehards will always shoot film. But it does make you wonder how much more expensive it can become before it kills it altogether?

Buy in bulk and roll your own, it doesn't save a huge amount but it all adds up.

Well, I'm not extinct yet...

Hang on though while I check my extinction meter *

* light meter joke (for light relief)

I don't know who these people are but first Google result 5 for £32.50

I saw and bought Gold 200 36exp for £4.99 a roll from Park Cameras at a show at the weekend.

I don't think it will kill it altogether. What is more likely the number of usable film cameras will just dry up when they no longer are repairable of become outlandishly expensive. Fortunately that seems a little way off yet. So the 'Smug Mugs' who would like to see the end of film photography cal also lay off gloating.

Well, I suppose some might. But methinks they protest too much. They know digital can never achieve the film look. ;)
