Edit My Images
Yes
Hi guys

When I use lightroom I can choose to apply transformations to batches of images on import. I can't, however, see an option to change the pictures to simple B+W (rather than a particular setting)

My camera is an Epson R-D1 and although it shoots RAW and JPEG I choose to display the pictures on the camera in monochrome (makes viewing easier/less distracting) and when I import the files into lightroom they look B+W until I open them in Loupe View where the colour is brought back, meaning I have to click on a B+W setting or choose B+W treatment in the develop module. This can take a while with big bunches of images.

Cheers

Choose a b/w photo

Make a Preset (Develop > New Preset...) with just Treatment (Black & White) and if you want, Black & White Mix checked.

Apply the preset on import.

Thanks for that. On import, is there any quicker way to select a preset rather than the loooong list which you have to press the down arrow on to get to the preset you want? Does LR remember the preset from the last import?

Cheers

I just scroll with my mouse.

I've no idea. Try it out.

You could create an import preset for black and white - it's an extra step, but probably better than having to scroll through a list of develop presets if you have dozens.

Thanks guys. Problem is the lightroom pre installed presets are always at the top of the list and the closest to what I want is B+W Look 4. If I could make one and label it with the latter A it would be a the top of the list but my custom libraries are always below the list of lightroom ones, and that's quite a long list to scroll through each time. Just seems rather clunky for such a slick program.
