My local computer shop over here in Guernsey is selling this spec of Imac for £1949 now they are normally really expensive so I went online to see if I can get this model cheaper else where but when i do Google search for it even the apple store does not have this spec. I am seriously thinking of changing to An Imac when my current PC dies on me. So is this something special to my local shop or is this one available else where????

I will be totally honest Neil I just seen it today whilst in the buying a laptop for work so went onto the website when I got home and thought I would look else where.

Here is a link to the shop

It looks like the current model, and the USB 3 slots would suggest that.

It's a standard iMac. £2338.99 for that spec direct from the Apple store.

Make sure you want to swap to an iMac. Some people love them, others hate them.

I did find it in the end in the apple store, its not a standard one you have to upgrade the lower spec one thats why I could not find it straight off.
It is that price minus the VAT for over here so works out at £1949.

What makes you say about loving or hating an iMac, had a bit of a play with one in Barcelona when I went into the massive apple store there, and the last photography course I was on he had iMacs to learn light room etc, I found it a little strange compared to a PC but not overly.

Glossy screen is a no-no IMHO (I used one on the weekend and it was sat opposite a window - it was like looking in a mirror!). I don't like Apples "way of doing things" (pet hate is the application menu is at the top of the screen, not attached to the program so it kind of assumes a singe screen app) plus I don't get on with an all-in-one system that has limited expandability (look for all the "what external drive for my iMac" threads - you'll probably end up with at least a disk drive sat on the desk too). I have another 101 issues, but I won't bore you with them ;) These things may not bother other people - or they may actually see them as an advantage.

At the end of the day, an iMac is a top spec PC running OS-X. A top spec PC running Win 7 will do exactly the same job, just differently. Choice is good, but make the choice because it is what you want, not because others have marketed it to you...

...well I like my iMac. I like OSX. I don't like Apple trackpads, but that's okay as I really like the Magic Mouse. It may well be design over functionality and there is, for us VAT paying mortals especially, an Apple tax.

Changing to an iMac probably won't change your life but if you can afford it, like the look of it crack on. I'm on my second iMac and cannot imagine going back to Windows.

Thanks for that. It is a lot of money and for that money I could look at a real top spec pc with a massive screen to go with it.

cheaper way is mac mini, upgrade ram yourself, and buy a better dell screen of your choice. Then buy a lens with the change.

Better Dell screen? Dell and Apple both use the same panels.. And Apple has a higher reject rate as well.

no they don't unless apple force wide gamut panels to sRGB mode, and then they plaster over their horrible glossy cover. The glossiness alone and non-versatile stand are big excuses to buy Dell screen.
