Where can I go for a proper demo on an iMac. I live in South Wales and I am in the market for a new computer. I already have a Mac Book pro so I am familiar with the operating system. John Lewis in Cardiff was useless though I will probably purchase from there because of the warranty.
The Mac store in Cardiff and Bristol had poor quality jpegs on there demo machines, mostly from iPhone 6 and old Nikon and Canon pics that had had the guts ripped out of the jpegs. All I am looking for would be seeing a good quality high res jpeg. Seeing a Raw file in Photoshop or Light room would be a bonus. Any idea?

Why don't you just take your own files on a pendrive? You'll be lucky to get a demo of Photoshop or Lightroom in an Apple Store because they're not Apple apps but I take it you're really only interested in how the images display?

Apple panels are all much and much the same just different sizes and res.

Becides you should be calibrating your displays anyway so colour inaccuracy should be limited.

As said bring your own files, or just ask one of the staff. They have plenty of hi res images. I've done several one 2 one sessions and never not found anything.

But nothing like your own images. Although as stated it won't be calibrated.

Hi Adrian

As has been said, take some of your own images in and have a look at them on the machines you're considering, but I doubt very much they'd have Photoshop or LR installed on a new machine as this isn't Apple's software...

You could process one of your images at home, save it at a high res and then look at this on the iMac and see if you're happy with the results ?

Does your Macbook Pro have the retina screen ?

Since Adobe went to the subscription model Apple don't have any decent photo apps on their machines. They have Photos but that's a bit basic compared to Photoshop or Lightroom. Even if you take your own photos to the store it's best to make sure they are happy for you to load them on. Usually a prior phone call solves the problem but they can be a bit reticent not knowing what being loaded. Apple do offer a 14 day no quibble return policy so if you don't like it then they will refund. Check with JL if they will do the same.

Also check out Stormfront. They are an Apple certified retailer that are offering 3 years warranty ( limited) they also tend to know what they are talking about.

Rumor mill has it new Mac's in October.

I have both rMBP and iMac ( 2 in fact but then I'm just showing off[emoji16]) If you are happy with the rMBP then you'll have no problem with the latest iMac. The new ones have a P3 display which is around aRGB in response. Slightly larger in one direction slightly smaller in another.

Absolutely this. Stores used to have the Adobe Suite installed, but only on the "Pro" machines. The Photos app is able to handle RAW images from most recent cameras as is Preview.
They'll be fine with you loading your pics and don't worry about anyone else seeing them, just make sure you restart the machine when you are finished and it will revert back - all the store machines are set up with an application called Deep Freeze.

I'd also take advantage of the return policy to try the machine out in your own home.

I do not think you'll be disappointed. I used to have a MacBook and enjoyed using it - now I have a MacBook Retina display and fine the quality of the screen to be fantastic. I would certainly vouch for it. Just make sure you get as much memory space as you can afford.

When I purchased my MacBook Pro I took my own images with me and although I didn't do the same when I purchased the iMac 5K as a friend had one I would have if I needed to.

As said above you will not be disappointed.

I played with an iMac in Apple Store before I bought mine they had a plethora of images imported in Photos.

They are came from different sources - iPhone, 5DMkIII, D810, D610, JPEG/RAWs,

Some machines have even Adobe sw installed. Or you can just download and install it (Adobe CC have trial of all apps). That's actually why these machines are there for...

Also most Apple Stores do free themed workshops - just check their website
