Hi,

I have just switched all my photos over to Aperture 2.0 from iPhoto 09.

My library size showed as 19GB when iPhoto, but in Aperture it is showing as 39GB, twice the size.

Can anyone help me get back to its original size, with out losing/ruining the photos?

Thanks

Have you imported and moved the photos? You have the option to import them to the current location and just reference them. It is a little suspicious that it's basically twice the size.

Have you done much processing of the pictures in iPhoto? If you have, then while they are in iPhoto they will be stored as the original image (quite large file) and a set of adjustments to that image to display the edited version (quite small file).
If you import your iPhoto library into Aperture, Aperture will import the original image, and an image file with the iPhoto adjustments applied, so you end up with two image files, effectively doubling your library size.
You should be able to see this in your Aperture projects. Some photos will be tagged with "iPhoto Original" or similar.

What pruning you can do depends on whether you want to keep your edited versions and ditch the originals, or keep the originals and redo the editing in Aperture (which will generate the "adjustments file", rather than a second image).

Hope this makes sense.
