Hi,
I normally shoot RAW but decided to try RAW+JPEG over the weekend just to check how my attempts at post processing compared to what the camera would produce.
I downloaded the files to Aperture (via cable from the camera as I've not got a card reader that will do SDHC) and Aperture has decided that it can't read the images. Well, sort of.
It displays the images OK as thumbnails, and when I click on it to view, the picture flashes up momentarily, but is then replaced by a red image and a message that it cannot display the image.

Has anyone seen this before? Is there a way to fix it?

Ta,
Jim.

Yep, all up to date. Never had a problem with just RAW files before, it handles them fine.
I'm off to search through Apples KB site now and see if that throws up anything.

corrupt files on transfer?? try redoing the transfer to comp

Fletch - That's certainly possible, I'll give it another go when I get home tonight.

There also seems to have been a whole load of issues with the Digital Camera RAW 2.4 update. I'll check again which version is installed (although it should be 2.5 now, unless software update is holding back on me!) and try rolling back to 2.3 if re-running the import doesn't fix it.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Had another go last night and it looks like Aperture is getting a bit confused when importing the file. On the import dialog, the file information specifies the type as CR2 with a file size ~4Mb.
So, it looks like it's importing the JPEG version, thinking it's the RAW.
Hopefully my new card reader will turn up today and I'll be able to prove this by seperating the two file types and importing them manually.
It's something to bear in mind though if you shoot RAW+JPEG and import direct from the camera.

It could be reading the jpg embedded into the raw file and then tries to process the raw file and can't.

Do you get the same problem in iphoto?

I would try downloading the demo of lightroom as that uses Adobe Camera Raw as its codec and would rule out the Apple codec used by iphoto and aperture.

Looks like my initial suspicion was correct as it works fine when I remove the JPEGs from the card and import the RAW images. One to bear in mind for the future I guess.
