Anything Football 24/25

It happens at every club, and the management team should be prepared for it.
Injuries are just part of the game, and squad depth is part of team management. Liverpool were without arguably the best keeper in the world for part of the season. They had a more than able back up. I hope his replacement is just as good when needed.

Keeping players fit is key, and especially with a change in playing style, it will take players bodies time to adapt, but that is part of the management. When Klopp came in at Liverpool they had a load of muscle injuries as the players bodies reacted to the different training and playing style. Over time he also had to adapt to the Premier League opposition, and the lack of a winter break. It worked out OK. ;)

Being without a forward for Arsenal has been a lack of planning over a number of years. Maybe this is the year they buy a couple of forwards rather than selling the young ones they had. I could see them finally buying a big name, (but then it was the same 'noise' last summer) and then him getting injured because they only bought one. ;)
What I said earlier stands, the recruitment at Spurs (and Man Utd) has been poor, and also the man management has been ineffective. Spurs don't deserve to be in the Champions League after finisishing where they did...
Very lucky for Spurs that they are not getting into the Champions League because of league position. ;)

Asking a Gooner to read about Spurs? It will be a cold day in Hell when that happens....

As for injuries, Spurs are not the only club, and to be honest, they should have a deeper squad. Like I said earlier, Arsenal had been without their No 1 centreback for the last 10 games of the season. No fit centre forward all year (and into next year too unless they buy one). Thomas Partey was out more than he was in, Timber has had to play at right back as Ben White has been out most of the season, then Timber himself was out for 5 weeks. We had to get Lewis-Skelly from the Acadamy to cover at Left Back as both Timber and Zinchenko were injured (that happened to be a spot of fortune as MLS has proven to be an excellent player). Our talisman, Saka was out for a number of weeks, forcing us to play yet another Acadamy recruit (Ethan Nwari) who luckily for us, held his own. Odegard was also out for a few weeks, at the same time as Saka & White, which meant the whole right side of the starting 11 were not available. We still finished 2nd though.

Well they do as the rules are win the EL and you get to CL - Personally I dont like 4th or 5th getting in either!! Should really go back to Champions only IMO but never will.

As for CF - Jesus is crap IMO, need to get rid, Havertz I really like but not sure if he is a proper striker. Had Arteta signed someone like Toney or a proven, quality no.9 I do think we could have won either PL or CL

I agree that only league winners should go into the Champions League. The clue is in the name, ;) but as you say, it will never go back. :(

I think Toney may have been better than what they ended up with, but you have to question a players ambition if they go off to Saudi before the end of their career. Set for life for sure, but...

My bold...:ROFLMAO: I hope you did read it. Took me while to put that together asI had to keep checkin g my facts as I don't have a memory like an ITV Chaser.. lol.

Last sentence is fair comment tbh. I thought that myself. I doubt they'll last long through the stages.

I really admire Arteta. He's done a fantastic job. He's quite young in manager terms. He'll probably be another Pep. Klopp or Slot. He had a top boss, though, in Pep. It was brave but good foresight of the club to give him that manager's position.

I assume it was those injuries that allowed Liverpool to take the cup this time. When I watched them I always looked out for Saka and Jesus but they were out for quite a while. I like watching Odegaad, too and Havertz. Having said that re injuries you also had six red cards this season. I think that was the most any club had. Liverpool have also been consistent and I think,at the end of the day, as they say, that's the reason they won the title.

I expect you'll be keeping a close eye on who they're after as a striker. Academy player, Max Dowman is only 15. I'm reading they are after the Swede, Gyokeres or Slovenian, Šeško (Leipzig). Spurs need to be in the market too .I hear they may get Jonathan David (Lille) who was said to be a potential replacement for to replacement for Harry Kane who left two years ago, so that tells you something about the club. His contract expires this summer so he'd go on a freebie which would delight Levy.

Players coming in free normally demand above average wages (even for football) so I doubt that will please Levy.

Max Dowman does look very good, but he's young (still only 15) so you have to see how he develops, but he is now training with the first team squad. As for a striker, who knows? Gyokeres would hit the ground running, but his style of play doesn't lend itself to the way Arsenal play. We went after Sesko last season but he decided to stay put. From what I hear, talks have been going on all year, so if I were to put money on it, he would be the one. However, as in football, all of this could be a smokescreen while we look elsewhere.

Spurs being... Spurs!!!

If you had offered the fans or board CL next year AND a trophy they would have snapped your hand off. And that is why Spurs will never break into the top clubs, Levy a joke.

So... the first piece of silverware in seventeen years hasn't saved him but I suppose it was almost inevitable after Spurs finished 17th..fourth from bottom ..one above the relegation zone.

I haven't read or heard about any other name yet, other than Thomas Frank, to replace Ange P.

They would be crazy to think of it. Last guy won a trophy and got CL and sacked, so what will prevent them getting the sack? Winning the CL probably, or a top 5 finish. But what if they win nothing and finish 8th?

Well, they are Spurs. They deserve Levy just for that  :LOL::LOL::LOL:

Well, it looks like Thomas Frank is all but signed up for Spurs. They are now sorting out the backroom staff. As you know, new managers tend to bring their staff with them,at least a couple of those who have worked closely and sing off the same song sheet. I've read that he is prepared to change tactics according to the opposition which Ange never did.

Btw. There are rumours that Jack Grealish, who has barely featured for MC may go to Spurs but he's on £300,000 a week..that's pretty darned good considering his actual playing time. I really like Grealish,he's an entertaining players, the scourge of defences because he runs right at them and the invariable happens..a foul as he's brought down ,a free-kick often resulting in a goal. It's the same with the England team..overlooked by Southgate, most times and when he did play, brought on as a sub. He's been left out of City's Club World Cup qualifying game on the 18th..June. He's had niggling injuries but, basically,Pep doesn't think he's lived up to the £100,million paid for him. Maybe there's a City fan on here who could shed more light. He could go on loan but my guess is that Pep wants him off the books.

There are a few clubs looking at him..Manchester United amongst them and as I mentioned..Spurs. He won't get £300,000. a week but he's not in a position to demand that level of wages. He'll be glad to be offloaded from MC, I'd imagine. Take a look at the wage structure at Spurs. That's Levy's doing. He doesn't think Premiere League players should get the level of wages many get. get.

Spurs wage structure. This isn't just in relation to Grealish but, imo, why Spurs lose out on top targets. I'm hoping they deal early onnthis summer becausevLevy leaves it to the lsst minute..sometimes literally, to 'force a 'better ' deal' but, invariably, loses his man.

Both Grealish and Rashford should be in the England squad IMHO, they are both fast and skillful players, who make and score goals.

No, you have to pick players who are playing and on form. Grealish (and I do like him a lot) is not that at the moment. Rashford, am on the fence with. Other players have shown more of late

Man City are not even taking Grealish to this world club tournament. If he can't get in his club team, then no way for England. If you got guaranteed goals of him you could take a punt, but you don't. Rashford was at least playing for Villa, and had some good form towards the end of the season, and scores a lot more than Grealish.

There are thirty one players in the current Manchester City squad and eight of them are English. I wish he was playing for a team where he was getting a regular start. I have never seen Grealish have a bad game for England.

Oh i think he offers something not may others have, hopefully he will get a move this summer and if he does, and plays well, can see him at WC

If Grealish has been left at home, there is more opportunity for him to move away from City. The issue is his £300k per week wages. He will need to decide whether he wants to play, or sit there and take the money. I just can't see any other club paying those sort of wages for a player that may, or may not, do it for you in a game.

Do you understand how a football club (or for that matter any other sporting team) works? It is not his decision to play or not to play, it is the manager's decision.

I think you misunderstood me......

While the rest of the squad are away at the WCC, he has a chance (via his agent) to see if any other club is interested in him. If he gets some positive feedback, he would most likely have to accept a lower wage than he is on presently, to make a move possible. Or he can sit on the bench at City and get the money. I think it is in all footballers interest to be playing regularly, and with players wages being what they are, he isn't going to go broke earning £say, 200k per week, instead of £300k.

So, like I said, he will have to make a decision whether to play, or take the money.......

Some players are happy not to play - Carson and Ruddy spring to mind

Bayern Munich 10-0 Auckland City. If that doesn't just say it all about the Club World Cup, nothing will. Quality competitors! I think not so far.

I think it is the person in the background (DL) who ruined Spurs. Good luck to big Ange, I hope he does well. Ange was unlucky to take over Spurs in the same month as they lost Harry Kane, so it was already a "poisoned chalice".

If you just go to the previous page and look at my post.. #39, I've outlined the problems at Spurs re Daniel Levy, Joe Lewis and Enic. Scroll down to just under the link... "Spurs Injury Crisis.

Yesterday, I watched possibly the best opening ten minutes of any football match I have seen - PSG v Real Madrid in the semi final of the World Club Cup. PSG were on fire, two goals in the first nine minutes, whilst the RM defending was very bad.

RM never have been great in defence, their policy seems to be "we'll score more goals than you". They couldn't defend against Arsenal, and we didn't have a striker.

Oh dear...

UEFA ruling today...Crystal Palace demoted from the Europa League to the Conference League.

Heads up. Women's football Euros. ITV 8.00pm. England must beat Wales to qualify..well, a draw would d getb them through BUT only if the Netherlands lose to France. I can hear the wonderful Welsh anthem...:)

A great win for Chelsea beating PSG in the final of the World club cup. Quite decisive and a worthy man of the match for Cole Palmer who was superb (as was the Chelsea Keeper Sanchez).

I heard about it on Five Live this morning. What happened very close to the the end ? I heard the sports reporter mention an altercation involving two players.

Btw. You don't get any of that behaviour with the women's teams. No harassing/mobbing the ref, no feigning injury or diving. Decisions are accepted or just met with a shrug.

I don’t think many people saw that coming… in fairness Chelsea were excellent & worthy winners.

Col Palmer is a brilliant player, but he's definitely a No:10, not a winger.

Just a heads-up about a documentary tonight at 9.00pm on BBC2. I'll just post what the preview says.

"Football's Financial Shame. The Story of the V11. The documentary claims to reveal how 11 football players were exploited by "devious conmen". The V11 group say they were cheated out of millions of pounds by financial advisors as salaries soared after the Premiere League debut in 1992/93. The best known is Danny Murphy who talks of his descent into drugs, drink and gambling addiction. For others, the consequences were financial ruin, divorce and lost properties. Another is ,Craig Short (former Burnley player) whose wife,Carly Barnes-Short ,drives the V11 campaign for justice group with the help of barristers, money experts. and private detectives"

I'd have thought that clubs would have given advice re all this as they do for today's young players coming into massive wages and all the temptations and financial pitfalls that brings along. Also, how to conduct themselves..or rather not conduct themselves in public. etc.

I saw a short clip and Danny Murphy was almost in tears telling his story and how he lost £4-5million
