What are you looking to find out Robin?

Hi Mark

I was just wondering about the Pros and cons compared to other machines out there.

Any pitfalls etc

Well, no there shouldn't be any pitfalls with any of the currnt crop of dye sub printers on the market. The ASK200 is no longer a current machine, so it will be ASK2500 from now on. It is not one of the lighter machines, but it is a good performer.

If you are looking at printers , just make sure you have looked at al the ones availablke - so that will be DNP, Mitsubishi, HiTi, Kodak, and Sony.

Are you going to use it for Event work? , Printing on site , or is it going to be static?

As in Robin - what other machines had you been looking at?

Mark

To start with it would be static next to my PC at home.

I am hoping to get one brand new but "cheap" from work as we buy a lot of Fuji plates.

I would then only need to buy paper on a regular basis from a supplier.

I knew the 2000 was an older model but figured there was more chance of someone having used one of those.

From what I have read on here The Mitsubishis and DNPs seem to be popular.

I would be looking to print 6x4s, 7x5s & 9x6s.

Ok Robin, well if it is staying in an office the size and weight won't be an issue. New the Fuji machines are not the cheapest either machine or media. If you want a secondhand ASK2000 , best check eBay or some of the forums used by event photographers.

Check the history of the mcahine, if it has come from a retail kiosk, and if the head has been replaced.

Thanks for that Mark.

Do you work for a supplier? I see you are in East London - not far from me in SE London.

If so is there a ready reckoner anywhere of the TCO of these dye sub printers?

Sorry - TCO?

Yes I do work for a supplier sir.

Yes I work in North East London. Cannot say more than that as I am bound by an agreement with the Mods on here.

Hi Mark

TCO = Total Cost of Ownership.

i.e. initial cost of printer, cost per print, maintenance kits etc.

Robin, your best bet is to start calling up sellers of dye sub printers, there are a few around. I would say more, but if I do , it could be curtains for me.

:?

I don't want you to get in trouble.

Google is my friend ;) so I'll pop in, in a few weeks when I have some time.

Hi , new to this forum , but not to photography - found a link to this thread on a search . I do realise this is an old thread , so perhaps I won't get too lucky ?

Anyway , I know the ASK-2000 is an old printer , and we were having a clear out at work , so a colleague and I 'acquired' one each , along with a few media packs , rather than throw them in the skip !

Thinking I had nothing better to do , I brought the machine home and connected it up to my Mac Pro 5.1 ( similar vintage to the printer and running OS 10.11.6 El Capitan ) . In system prefs the printer shows up as a Copal DPB-6000 which I know is a clone , but Apple don't have any drivers ( though I know they used to since we ran these on our LAN with a number of mac Pro machines of similar age .

Went on the net - Fuji list the ASK-2000 , 2500 and 4000 under legacy products , but only have drivers for OS 10.7 and 10.8 , which don't work on my OS ; yet I know I had updated my 'own' work MP to El Cap back in the day and the drivers already installed still worked after the upgrade . While I do have OS installation discs all the way back to Tiger ( OS 10.4 ) , it would be far too painful to reinstall that and work my way back up , plus Adobe CC would most likely not play ball in trying to reinstall , plus many other issues ...

Does anyone know where I might find a driver for OS 10.11 ? I seem to be stuck in a void between the older legacy drivers and newer ones Fuji currently support .

I will have a rummage at work for original installation discs , but after more than a decade they are likely to be lost !
