I think the main thing is video capability...

I would upgrade to 50D,7D or 5D mkII...

I didn't even know the 550D had been released..........noticed it has an 18MP sensor.....does this make the IQ a lot better than a 40D with it's 10MP?

probably worse, because all those extra pixels packed onto the sensor.
 
Its out , and there is one on its way to me as i type.

I had a 400d before so will give a comparison when i have time to play.

I think the main thing that swayed it for me is the chance to be creative with motion pictures as well.
 
It was on display in Manchester Jacobs last Saturday....ooh so tempted!! :D Its got the, ahm, insides of a 7D, or very similar, so I hear.

Manchester Arndale Currys Digital has a 550D in stock as well..;)
