Been browsing camera shops and found something interesting looking at Camera City in London. Quick Google of reviews gave mixed results although it was mostly around repairs etc. Has anyone bought second hand from them, and did you find what you bought to match the descriptions etc?

I thought I had visited most of the camera shops in London, but admittedly I've never even heard of Camera City. Not sure how that passed me by, particularly given how central it is.

The bad Google reviews seem to be related to repairs, as you have identified, as well as premium pricing - they are based in WC1A after all, they need to pay for their location!

If you have an important/expensive purchase in mind at the shop and can afford to travel in person, perhaps consider doing that? It's only a mile from Euston/King's Cross and not much further from the other main termini.

Website rather rough & ready - doesn't inspire confidence.

Just a comment on this - personal opinion - but with film photography, website quality doesn't seem to always correlate with customer service/customer experience.... often the people who are utterly terrible with technology are the most 'old school' with regards to customer service but also skill.

That occurred to me too, but I chose to be the devil's advocate ... product descriptions on-line are decidedly skimpy, though - so maybe a place to call in on, rather than to shop on-line?

I bought a Nikon mount 24mm Sunagor lens in the shop at what was, to me, a fair price. We had a chat and the guy seemed to know his second-hand lenses, but then I'm certainly no expert. Not sure this is much help to you.

Thanks guys. I was going to ring them on Tuesday and see how they seem on the phone. London is out of the question travel wise for me sadly. I appreciate the website is a bit dated, but as @freecom2 mentioned, most of the sites dealing in 2nd hand film gear are very dated (see also Mr Cad :)) and sadly UsedLenses.co.uk doesn't scrape them all.

I was mainly just shouting out in case there were any horror stories.

If you are visiting, stop for a coffee at the Camera Museum around the corner.

Are you looking to buy something in particular? I couldn't see anything particularly unique stocked on their website (brief glance to be fair).

They have a 501cm body which I'm tempted by...

It isn’t very ‘slick’ but it’s neat and the words make sense rather than just ’marketing-speak’. I reckon it’s genuine. Phone call is the way to go if visit is out of the question.

Is this your first Hasselblad? You'll probably be happy with any of the models since they are so similar.

They seem rather expensive regarding second hand stuff.
That said, if they have something you can't get anywhere else, go for it.

They've been there for years, I always have a look if I'm passing and I've used them in the past but they're not a go to supplier for me, as soupdragon said they are quite expensive.
