Anyone used anything like this before?

Hoya used to make a similar 'Macro filter' (maybe they still do). My brother owned one and out of curiosity I once tried it on my 5D.

The results were somewhat less than stellar, and that's with a 'name' brand.

So negative! Just because its 13 quid and on ebay you instantly presume its sh**e:lol:
Thought I might get that response, bumped into someone today who was raving about his, that he had bought. He paid £16 rip off! Granted I didn't see any pictures he had taken with it.

I have a fisheye converter thingy thats similar-ish (had it for donkeys years) the qualitys ok-ish, good for a bit of fun I suppose.

Paul...

If you've got £13 going spare then why not try it & see for yourself.... What else would you have spent £13 on

Have you thought of the macro rings that look like filters - Think that some polish geezer on the bay sold them - I had some a few years ago... They were OK for the price (about £7)

It won't be as good as a genuine wide angle lens, but as long as you're not expecting it to be it'll be fine. For £13 you can try it and sell it on if it's not for you.

At the very least it'll tell you how useful a wide angle can be.

I have, they are horrible! I had a Wide-Angle and Macro, they just make the image look soft and crappy. The wide-angle had horrible blur at the edges too.
The macro one isn't even macro, its just a zoom basically.
Waste of money.

I had, and probably still have somewhere one of these, if I bother to turn over my place. I bought a Jessops version. It worked OK. One side for fish eye and turn it around for close-up. This was 10 years ago, when I was a newbie to photography. Not the best thing IQ wise, but for the money, a nice toy if you are just starting out. If you don't get the ebay one, give me a couple of days, and if I can find it you can have mine FOC.

To quote a couple of lines from the ad/listing...

GUARANTEED NOT TO DISTORT THE PICTURE!

situations where a little creative curvature of field or fish-eye effects, it is wanted for a certain style.

Since the lister can't make up their mind whether it does or doesn't create distortions, I would be a little doubtful about any other claims they made as well.

It's a LOT cheaper than a true wide angle and/or Macro and there are probably plenty of reasons for the cheapness but if you have the asking price spare and can afford to have the thing sat doing nothing if it's no use to you, why not have a play?

Not bought one yet, I am just starting out and fancied something else to play with. If you don't want yours anymore just let me know and I will sort it out with you, that would be great Nigelpaul cheers!
