Yes
I'm currently on GiffGaff/O2 but it's really patchy on data if you go anywhere out of town and for some reason it keeps losing the data feed even when the signal is good. 3 are doing a reasonable sim only deal just now but I don't want to commit to them if it's not going to be any better.

I'm with 3. There are loads of places where I can't get a signal at all and everyone else can with o2/voda and even EE.

GG data is very slow and poor. Lots complain about it. I'd try a different MVNO. One on either O2 or Voda.

When 3 works it is fast and it is good but there are so many places that are total black holes.

I'd get a payg sim first and see what the coverage is actually like. Then upgrade to the offer you wanted if they're any good.

Thanks for that Suz, I'll go investigate what O2 are offering sim wise, I'd just assumed the poor data was down to their network.

Reception is a bit patchy. It works pretty well in some places like Glenfinnan viaduct, around Buchaille Etive Mor, Fort william, but it can be a complete notspot even all around Loch Lomond. I doubt any carrier will be that good over there. You should see the coverage they get in Switzerland.

I bought an O2 pay as you go because 3 were crap whenever I went to Scotland (2011, 2012, 2013)

I went to Mull, West Coast (Tarbert) Glencoe and Nevis Ranges among other places and had very few decent signals with 3.

I was on 3 earlier this year, their coverage was good to start with then it went severely downhill to the point where I refused to pay my contract and eventually getting out of it... Free of charge. IMO... Stay well clear

Ps .... Both data and phone signal were not good

Thanks for the responses chaps and chapettes. EE are offering a rolling 30 day contract, It might be worth while signing up for one and trying it out for a month. Not sure I believe their coverage checker, where others tend to show good signal in towns or parts of towns EE show blanket good everywhere.

I've got O2 and 3 in an ipad, the 3 signal for data is hugely better just about everywhere.

Not one company covers were we are very well. i am on 2 and i walk 2 feet from a spot and can loose it. Martin is on vodaphone and his is the same.

Cat firmly back among the pigeons! I've been testing on O2, EE and Vodaphone (all of which I already have) and so far EE is winning comfortably on signal/availability. I had discounted 3 after the responses above but I suppose if I'm going to research I'd better do it properly.

I'm on EE now and it seems to be ok
