Anyone use Photoshop?

Given that there are sometimes not enough change in some newer versions for people to justify upgrading from the version they have, I can only assume Adobe don't give a stuff about their customer relations. Money grabbing ar5ewipes.
 
I am going to have to spend more time getting used to Hasselblad's Phocus then because I am not in a position to get a cheaper copy anymore.
 
Seems like a bad marketing idea to me if this is a fact. If it is true then obviously the revenue generated from upgrades will drop off substantially after year 2, and Adobe are hoping that this will be offset by customers buying a CS6 when customers have CS4? I don't think so do you?

It must mean then that most people don't bother upgrading or buying the latest version. The "CS3 is all I really need, can't afford to upgrade besides there's no point" posse have won over.

If this is true then Adobe have obviously wighed up the pro's n cons and decided that this is their best course of action. Hmmm.. I wouldn't be surprised if a) this isn't actually going to be the case & b) if this is the case Adobe doing a U turn on this policy in the future.

Odd move.
 
I think the reason for this is because many people upgrade every other version (cs4 to cs6 for example) and Adobe have the idea that they'll make more money by forcing them to upgrade more often, sadly I suspect the opposite may happen, trying to squeeze more money out of your customers in a recession might not be the best idea.

Actually when I saw the announcement, it made me think more about upgrading to CS5

I only do photography for a hobby
I have CS4, and the clone/fill feature of CS5 looks like it would save so much work, as when I do use photoshop, a lot of the time it is to remove people or crud from images.

The blur/shake removal feature that might possibly make it into CS6 makes me think it would be a brilliant tool to have. So thinking about upgrading now, then to 6 later so that I can make use of the intelligent fill for a while.
I wouldn't be allowed to purchase CS6 outright, but might get two upgrades through the process.

No doubt they heard a lot about this because there was a big turnaround today

I'm surprised there hasn't been more noise about CS6 on here, maybe people are mainly using Lightroom now rather than forking out for the full version.
 
It's plateaued, hasn't it? There used to be quite a big `wow!` factor when a new version came out, but now it's like a new series of `Last of the Summer Wine`.

Photoshop used to be the one the others followed, but now you find the best noise reduction, HDR conversion, mono conversion, and so forth, in other packages. All Adobe can do is try to keep up with the innovators while trying to convince us they have something worth upgrading for. (And I don't believe that they have a `fix out-of-focus file` tool on the way - remember the claims for content aware fill?).

Photoshop is still by a fair margin the best all-round editing package on the market, but I doubt very much that there will be anything in CS6 to temp me to upgrade from CS4. What I worry about is that they will try to find a way to force buyers of new cameras to use the newer platforms. Again.
 
They have abandoned this and relented to their previous upgrade policy.
