Got a wu-1a for my D7100 today but for some reason I cannot get it work with dslrdashboard android app .No idea what im doing wrong .I know the wu-1a isn't faulty as it works fine with Nikon app .
Any ideas ??

I use the wu-1a with a Nikon D3200 and a Samsung Galaxy Tab and it works perfectly. I find it best not to transfer pictures as this reduces the effective wireless range so use it for full remote control. The program adds a lot of functionality to the feature starved D3200, such as bracketing. I did not install the Nikon software at all as it is alleged to be dreadful and only allows shutter control and file transfer. I seem to recall that the Nikon app has to be completely removed to allow DSLR Dashboard to function, the Nikon app auto starts every time the Andriod device is turned on.

Interesting to read that the Nikon app has to be removed. Have the wireless module, for my nikon d600 and have to say, the nikon app is completely useless. The potential is there, but unfortunately, nikon don't appear to want to actually make the app useful.

I believe there's an extra app, Open CV Manager, that's needed for DSLR Dashboard. Do you have that installed?

I don't have Open CV manager installed so it is not actually required. It is also possible to connect to DSLR Dashboard via the Camera USB cable with an OTG USB connector, provided the Android device supports OTG (On the Go), most of the more recent devices do support this protocol. I believe the longest feasible USB cable arrangement is 5m before the signal degrades. I have tested the camera cable with the Nikon D40, D3200 and D7000 and all work except of course that the D40 does not have live view, but the remote control still works. I have also connected a Canon 5D2 and this works but has more limited functionality. There is a second App called DSLR Controller which has a small purchase cost and seems to be geared especially towards Canon DSLRs. The rather poor photo shows my USB OTG adapter for my particular Samsung Galaxy Tab.
