Watched this last night and I had high hopes of a night of enjoyment, some nice cold beers in the fridge, snacks and nibbles at the ready and a comfy warm living room to watch it from.

Boy, what a disappointment, especially as I enjoyed the first three films.

I think I should have realised after 15 minutes it was not going to be all I had hoped for as I heard the phrases M.I.L.F and O.M.G :(

The images looked fantastic as would be expected in 2021, the sound was decent enough but the story line and characters were in a word woeful.

Just wondered what others that have seen it thought :)

Ive not seen it yet. I was putting off till after XMAS because Im going to see my folks tomorrow. Having read your review, and others which weren't complimentary I'm not rushing now

I actually read some of the comments over on AVForums but as usual I took them with a pinch of salt, BIG mistake :(

Disclaimer: I'm a huge Matrix fan. I believe that Matrix 1 is a contender for best film of all time (any genre - it's certainly top 3 SciFi) and that Matrix 2 was underrated because by comparison with 1 it wasn't great but was still a very decent film. 3 was.....,ill-conceived and dull.

I went to see it in the cinema on launch day and deliberately stayed away from all sources of reviews. I spent last week rewatching 2 & 3 (which was a chore) to make sure that I would be in a place to understand it. I'm also fascinated by the idea that 2 brothers made the first 3 and then made the 4th as sisters. Would this show in the film?

I went into the cinema actually nervous. For the first 10 minutes I was hopeful - there was enough cleverness and witty meta references that I almost believed they would get away with it. Then...................................well, it's better than 3. But honestly, not much. They messed with the stuff they shouldn't have messed with (the new way of filming the fights is awful), came up with ideas rather than plot (srsly, the plot was "Trinity's not dead") and bullet time 2.0 is what adverts were using about 3 years after the first film came out. I think the Guardian were generous with their 2 out of 5.

its not a fans film which is why a lot of AV forums will hate it
i also found it lame, to much trying to explain the matrix and the computer game link is to tedious
the MILF coffee shop to explain Trinity made me feel a bit sad also

all in all i can only think its a "link" film to matrix 5 a bit like promethius was for the Alein films.

buy for me yawn, 6/10

Ah the irony, the fact they did exactly that in a world where there were so many conspiracy theories after the first film that believed we were all in some sort of matrix is exactly what they used as a plot point and I found so good.

I saw it last Friday morning, however I am semi-reliably informed I was asleep through most of it so it can't have been that good
