Hope this video lifts off and gets everywhere, they should be sacked.

They should of put the tires down, the stupid gits wouldnt know.

Ahahahahaha I laughed at this. Obviously not too loud. Otherwise I will wake up the parents and siblings.

Don't they get coffee breaks etc like everyone else though? Just being devil's advocate here.

Plenty folk done that when they should have been working.

No. Theoretically, yes, but the control room will keep sending you jobs regardless. You get a break as & when (and where) you can if you need one.

I've had people begrudge me buying a cup of tea when out on patrol, getting a sandwich in Sainsbury's, and so on.

Andy - I hope a mistake in your job gets you sacked instantly, too.

TO be honest if they were pulling over every Tom, Dick and Harry, just for something to do to keep themselves awake, they'd be even less popular. It doesn't matter how much sleep you have during the day, it doesn't take long with nothing to do at night to fall asleep.

Could you explain how two police officers curling up together and going to sleep on duty is "a mistake"? Strikes me more to be gross misconduct.

What if they missed a call to serious incident?

"Sorry your son got killed by that drunk driver that sped past us, we were having a wee nap"

wow, they even show the registrsation plates in the video.

I've never had a problem staying awake when working 12 hour night shifts - the first couple of days are a pain although you get used to it.

I'm not saying it isn't a disciplinary issue, but instant dismissal wouldn't serve anybody's purpose. It's negligent, but I don't think it's serious enough to fall into the category of "gross misconduct". If they were guarding a high-risk prisoner, a surveillance team with an important task, etc, then the sanction would be more severe - but they're not.

Would everyone be calling for an A&E doctor to be dismissed immediately if he was found sleeping on a night duty? Or a paramedic?

A warning to the officers would probably suffice, get them to buck their ideas up, and get back out patrolling. If it's a repeated occurrence, then things should get more serious.

Somehow I don't think you can compare the workload of a junior doctor with that of a traffic polis...

Perhaps the best thing would be to stick them back in crappy cars - I bet they didn't go for 40 winks when they were stuck out on patrol in a Rover 800

Hold on, this isnt a stupid mistake like leaving the lights on all night or something like that, these people are on patrol to stop crime at night. A punch up could of happened yards away and they wouldn't even know about it. How would you feel if you hired some bouncers for a night club to stop the rift-raft and they went and had a kip round the back. A heavy fine in wages and temporary leave non paid if sacking them is to bad, but I think they should be sacked on the spot for this.
