Could possibly be something to do with calibrating the WB on a camera. Definitely for Nikon anyway.
 
They are odd though. I've never come across anything like that.
 
They look old school (not familiar with Nikon mounts) but with the cut-outs inside only allowing a certain pattern of light through - could they be something that would be used to test a camera's shutter or for light leaks? They might be more a maintenance/testing item rather than a photography aid. No idea of course but that's what came to mind.

Interesting........I wonder if the outer end with the diffuser rotates and as you say it/they are more to do with testing,:thinking:
