There's an airshow in a couple of weeks at Sywell Aerodrome. Does anyone know Sywell enough to be able to comment on its "goodliness" for the photographer to be able to get some good clean shots?

How does it compare to say, Duxford? Is there any particular good place to be at Sywell, like the Tank Bank is a good spot at Duxford?

thanks in advance for your views

thanks for the reply Chris.

Yep, I did the initial research on location, how to get there, what's showing etc using their website, but I am more looking for a photographer's view of the best place(s) to be to get some good shots

I am hoping that one or two forum members have been before and know the score

You can't really see the runway from the main car park as its over a slight rise, however I don't know if it's opened up more for the airshow.

I used to work at Sywell a lot but I've never seen it shut for an airshow. However e blades usually use the main hanger and the hotel as the front line for displays so I would suggest lining yourself up there. Also ere are a lot of areas around the airfielld that are open that you should be able to get access too. I would say either get out the front of the cafe or try to be in the hotel garden. Sorry I can't help more but I hope you are taking a wide angle lens with you as some of the planes in the hangers are pretty sexy.

Nigel - I think I sent you a PM on this via another forum but essentially the big plus that Sywell has over Duxford is that you can get the sun behind you pretty much all day until late evening time.

I should image the airshow flight line will be pretty much along or parallel to runway 23/05 which runs across in front of the hangars and hotel garden. That's the line that The Blades use for their practices. If they used 21R/03L (the hard) then it'd just be too far away and at the wrong angle.
