Anyone know how to achieve this effect?

I think you need to pay around with saturation sliders and a beautiful model helps.

:agree: Maybe a colour balance layer for colour in the shadows.

Probably more important is studio lighting and a good make up artist.

Also shouldn't this pic be a link instead?

You probably need to shoot for this effect. Soft lighting with no pronounced shadows. Then reduce the saturation to near monochrome. May need to adjust the light tones to maintain detail ( but that's a minor point).

here's the thing though, reason I asked for how it was processed is I have seen it done with several lighting setups (including more pronounced shadows) and ive seen some with the dreaded selected colour!

so all evidence points to photoshop!

also been trying with just saturation and the obvious outcome is dull no matter what sliders so ime led to believe there is a bit more goes into such an image.

Ah, but I bet it done with masks and curves. Look at her eyes/iris', thay look fairly natural.

Masking parts of the image, definitely.

Maybe :) ime scouring flicker and all over and no where seems to be giving up the details.

Maybe ime using the wrong search terms? how would you describe this type of shot?

Try a search on bleached images

The shots only 6 days old, why not drop Phil a message and ask?

He's most likely had a very well lit, and well made up model to begin with shooting with this end in mind.

Same model, same day, different light

I wouldn't do it by desaturating, as it all goes a bit grey.

Might have to do, been a long time since I had any kind of communication with Phil.

Perhaps saturation sliders and/or split tone slider in Lightroom + soft lighting/effect..
