They're usually set to Dynamic out of the box for display in a bright shop full of fluorescent lights, you'll need to fiddle with it to get it better, what sort of distance are you viewing it from, My panasonic plasma took a bit of setting up, the picture is definitely better now than it was 3 weeks ago when it was new, they need running in
send me your address and i'll post you a decent scart, it's not a £50 one but it is gold plated and thick so it should be better than the one you're using. does your sky box have a component connection as this is better than scart.
