No
Off to london this weekend and just found out the train fare

Be a lot cheaper for me to drive but then where to park

If I do drive I'll be dropping the car off friday about 8pm and probabaly not returning until Sunday 2ish. anybody know a good free if possible (on street) place to park?

In the past I've parked in New Cross but I think a lot of it now is resident parking only so don't want to drive all the way to find out I can park there.

Not sure where you're travelling from but my advice is to drive to Watford - park on a residential street and then take the train into London - takes about 20mins on the train and is pretty cheap (much cheaper than parking costs!)

Same here - I went to Hatfield Poly (now calls itself a Uni). Huge car-parks, 10 mins to train station. Leave plenty of papers scattered about on the back seat, loads of crisps packets on the dash, add a few knocks on the door panels and smash a headlight - you'll fit right in!

That said, as pennies are freer now than that time, I usually park at my hotel and pay £50 a day parking!

If I do that I park in Golders Green area and get the tube in to central London

Ah yeah would've made sense to include where from eh :bonk:

I'll be traveliing up from kent (Canterbury) so Watford is the other side so no good for me :(. But thanks for input.

Anyone else know of somewhere south London to park? Have found a place at butlers Wharlf for £19 which would still make it cheaper than the train but I'm yet to confirm that price isn't a web anomaly.

I live in Clapham and I'm pretty sure all the residents only parking is only Monday to Friday. I'd be tempted to drop the car off in Southwark and get a tube from there. Even if I'm wrong about the parking there's a couple of cheap car parks (£5-8 a day) on the South side of Southwark Bridge.

Two alternatives..... one far more practical than the other!

i. Drive to the nearest Underground Station park all day for around £2-50 then get an All Day travel card..... then you can go anywhere in London.

ii. Park it anywhere you like in London and the Police/Wardens will find a spot for you!

HTH... ;)

I live in Chessington we`re at the end of our particular line. It`s 30 mins to waterloo which can be done using a travel card. Loads and loads of free parking around here!

You really need somewhere a lot more south than me though!

Network Away Break from Canterbury to London is around £20-£30 on www.thetrainline.com. Driving will cost more in terms of parking and petrol and takes longer (I live in Canterbury and go to uni in London). If you do want to drive there are car parks all around the ring road (Angel, Pentonville Road, Euston Road etc) that cost about £8 a day. A lot of street parking is only restricted during weekdays, and only during the day time, so you might find somewhere to park on the street.

i second the train/tube idea, i find it most easy when i have to go see punters. i drove yesterday, and i can assure that i wont do that agian ever.

Drive up the M20 park in Sidcup station car park and 25 minutes into town on the train

how many of you are going? if its 3 or 4 then go on the train and ask for a group saver ticket. that way you only pay for 2 of you even if 4 are going. for some reason they dont like to advertise that ticket much. ;)
check with your local station just to make sure they offer them on that date, though.. its seems to be at their discretion sometimes

Drive to Canary Wharf, catch DLR into town. Parking at CW is expensive weekdays but cheap on the weekends, especially if you spend a few quid in waitrose and get one of their parking tokens.

Oops didn't read the amount of time needed.

My road in Mottingham has free parking evening and weekends. PM me for postcode. It's only a 2 minute walk to the station and then 20 mins to London Bridge

We parked in Knightsbridge, (outside Sophie Anderton's flat).
overnight. Got a £50 ticket, but cheaper than paying for parking, and the security is a bit better too.

Cheers for the feedback guys

decided that I'll drive up to New X where the missus had her flat to see if I can get in there as its just off the a2 and not far from tube, if I'm able to get parking there I'll try in Mottingham as suggested by evilowl (eo - I've pm'd u).

Thanks again

I live in Sittingbourne, and always find the Dome/O2 is a good place to park... £6 a day, and ticket can be bought for 2 or 3+ days etc... North Greenwich station is there and is on the Jubilee line - easy access into central London

OOooOoooO somebody at work suggested this but couldn't find any info on it i.e. parking overnight do you know the postcode?

I'm certain I've seen cars there overnight... and I'd imagine more do now the O2 is open with all it's bars and restaurants etc...

I don't have a website for it, but it's run by NCP... their number for North Greenwich is 0870 6067050

Oh, and make sure it's the NCP car park you go in.... this is the car park specifically for people travelling on the tube. The other car parks are for events at the Dome and charge around £20 a day!

All the area around East Finchley, off the High Road (where I live) is non residents parking and means a 12 minute tube journey to the centre of town is possible!

Golders Green (as mentioned before) is also a good place, anywhere on the main road out towards the A406.

Cheers,
James
