Sorry but I've no idea what / where that maybe ..
Let me explain.

I was up in that area today, covering bird control, on the landfill opposite the cemetery.
The was a protest opposite the site entrance, and in the small lay by, by the cemetery.

Apparently they were complaining about the smell (?) What smell?
It was well organised with the Local MP and the BBC in attendance.
Who in there right minds buys a house a few hundred years from the perimeter of a land fill site and then bitches?
Especially when the L/fill had been there many many years before the houses were even thought of.

I did have a chuckle, there were about 40 people there, from the very young to the quite old.
When the camera turned to interview the local MP, 2 women quickly donned face masks, ie the medical type, and stood behind the MP when he was being interviewed.
If it was that bad why wasn't the MP wearing a mask?

I'd been there about 4 hours, the perimeter deodoriser system was on and running ( as usual)
Even when I was up very much up close and personal with the tipping area, there was no smell.

Anyhow, the real point of this is, if it made the local news, the demented guy in fluorescent orange swinging a bird lure was me (y)
The camera man did seem to like pointing his camera in my direction, I think he fancied me TBH.

Unfortunately he drove off before I could get either his picture or his mobile number ... Gutted :D

I was surprised to say the least when they built those houses. There are days when the smell is really bad. There are some impressively sized flocks of gulls over there at times too.

All I can see is a "Push out" disgorging its load. ?

I'm putting money on the fact that they were really cheap at the time, and when the landfill finally closes, They will make a killing on the re-sale ;)

There are days when the smell is really bad.
I only work the site a few times a year, holiday cover, be that winter or summer, and TBH I've never noticed a smell...

TBF it has improved in the last few years.
All waste sites, be that landfill or Transfer stations, walk a very fine line with the EA. any non compliance and it pushes their operating licence fee ( there are bands)
from a few hundred to several 1000's PA. So obviously its in their interested to stay compliant.

Again to be fair the waste industry generally, has ( had to) smartened its act up over the last few years.

hris look at the load coming out, then look at the trees in the BG and you can see you in the high viz and what looks like a bird.
That "bloke" in the high viz is a "gas well" Dave, taking methane to the gas plant via pipes high up to the right.
The hi viz is to stop the drivers driving into it. :D

I was stood between the camera and the lorry, he has zoomed way past me, and those houses are a good half a mile away from the tipping area,
the camera shows that they are almost on it...
Who say's the camera never lies eh? ;)

What do you fly?
Nothing now, not for a few years. but in the past, and for many many years just about every BoP, going. pure bred, hybrid and the odd Accipitor and tri-bred.
And of course not forgetting the reliable Harris hawk for urban work. (y)

I do the pest control, but unfortunately I'm the only one "double qualified" so I get stuck with "holiday cover"
I just use Pyro's / blanks and other visual methods, these days. Its just not worth keeping a BoP for a couple or so weeks a year flying. Its not fair on the bird.

But you can fool scavengers into thinking there is a bird in the air, and to their minds, "it's" at its most dangerous when they can't see it. ;)

I used to fly a Gyr/Saker and a small male Harris. Change of job forced me to give them up. My friend has the GS in with a male Gyr. Loved my little Harris, he was like a dog, if I hid in a bush, he would come looking for me. Good times.

And delicious!

And delicious!
Yeah true, but at around £450-£500 per Kg. They are too damned expensive to eat too often!

You get a set of free toothpicks though so that's a bit of a bonus.
