Yes
Thinking about getting one of these but paying near 1K for a Tamron is quite daunting really.

Anyone have one and have any thought about it ?

Im sure Ive read somewhere you may as well just go for the G1 as the performance difference isn't that big.

Yes I have seen some say its better in some ways, I also prefer the design and looks a lot more than the G1. Not that important what it looks like but it kinda is to me lol.

Yeah lol, it looks way better and they sorted the onion bokeh so thats pretty huge.

Go on their website, its £729.99 and free delivery

Quite a saving compared to £1000 :)
Digitalrev is at £869

Ireland and France seem to be the best value. New is cheaper than second hand.

I have used them twice before and no problems.

I would not buy from DR

I’ve had and tried the Tamron 24-70 G2 in Nikon and Canon mount on a D850 and A7riii (with an adaptor).

Personally I’m not surei its much better than the G1, nice lens though and seems more solidly built than the G1, but in testing last year on the D850 I found the G1 to be similar.

Certainly not £250 better then ?

Had the g1 before and it’s very good - although the vingnette at 2.8 is quite heavy and as mentioned the onion ring bokeh isn’t great. But these seem to go for about £450 used and probably I’ll get one again as they are really good value for money.

£509 new...

e-infin.com I think its called. Its like panamonz but only 1 year warranty instead of 3

Have heard of them. Not sure if it’s them or e global but one of them adds about £30 at checkout if you want insurance in case of it going missing in the post. Still cheap though

I have one (Nikon fit). Personally I think it’s a great lens, and a nice upgrade from the G1 - in particular he handling and build quality.

I paid £1249 from Amazon - benefiting from the 5yr uk warranty.

I have one for Nikon. Bought it for £830 from e infinity.

Read plenty of reviews (like I did)

It would appear it has a similar (same) optical construction to the G1 but benefits from much better coatings including a fluorine coating. I won’t pretend to know what these do but in review comparisons to the G1 there is a step up in image quality.

I was debating between this and the Nikon non vr version but it would appear I would have been paying for a Nikon badge, noticeably worse corner quality and no vr had I chosen the Nikon lens. This competes with the Nikon 24-70 mk 2 VR.

It looks good, all metal construction. Has 5 stops of VR. Yup count em!

The best thing for me however is the Tamron Tap in console which means you can spend ten hours of frustration to ensure the lens is tack sharp at all focal lengths and subject distances. Once done however...

Thanks guys, looks like there are quite a few very happy customers and good reviews so might just have to buy this.

I just cant justify getting the much more expensive Nikon version if not significantly superior, and it seems that it is not.

The Tamron Tap in console (and the sigma dock) are such game changers that even if the Tamron was inferior to the Nikon version (and it’s not) the mere fact that you have so much scope for lens calibration means the Nikon lenses simply can’t compete being limited to only one very basic calibration value.

Is it user friendly, I have never fine tuned AF or done anything like that before.

Not especially but getting the correct values to enter is much harder! I bought Focal software to do it for me.
