In a nutshell,

I had a Santander credit card that I paid off in June (and cut into pieces :D )
Upon looking at my Noddle credit report, I am now rated as red (1/5) so alarm bells rang thinking what on earth as I have always had squeeky clean credit etc. It states that I missed payments for June and July but we have proof that we paid the final fee off in May, the most alarming thing is it's now registered as Default?! :gag: even though the balance is zero and shows on my credit report as Zero!
I called Santander (got put through to New Delhi I believe) and the rep was not helpful at all, he said he can't see a problem and that I have to contact Experian to remove it as it's out of Santanders hands!
I'm absolutely fuming with them, I've had nothing but rubbish since banking with them, I used to be with Alliance & Leicester of which when Santander took over, they just sent a new card etc and the fees changed without notice yada yada yada.
I've had a quick google search and it appears I'm not the only one that this has happened to?! :bonk:

Just wondering what I should do, I'll send the usual complaint letter but if not I guess it's the FOS next..... :bang:

Have you confirmed that the balance is zero, that no interest was left unpaid? You can request that the amend your credit record if there was an error, but that will take a couple of months to take effect...have you spoken with there complaints team?

Complaint to Santander- as well as using the data protection commissioner for another route. I think it's highly unusual for a mainstream lender to default without marking the account as in arrears first. I'm assuming Santander issued a default notice. They're required to do so under the cca, so ask them for a copy of it. If the cant find it then they must remove the default. Report them to the oft if they can't find it and mention they've breached the terms of their licence.you need to be firm with them while you do this.

At the same time ask the cra to remove, they'll refer to Santander but at least if its a mistake it'll get rectified

No interest at all, it's just very very strange. Luckily I'm not in need of any credit for the time being but this stays on record for 6 years if I remember correctly? I've just drafted up a letter and photocopied statements to send to the complaints department. They can't address complaints on the phone as their staff are not trained (this is what I've just been told by another person from a mid eastern contact centre)

It sounds like an erro, but I would query it with the cra as well. At least that way you know that Santander must look at it within a defined timeframe.

Click on the "the let us know" button and report it. I had an incorrect address entry on mine and Noddle got it removed.

Have you received anything from Santander referencing anything outstanding or default notices?

If not it may well not be there fault. Experian aren't perfect.

Check every angle before putting someone in the crosshairs.

It can be totally corrected so don't worry about that ;) I'm trying to remember the correct phrase...not being able to deal with it over the phone is utter rubbish...trust me I know...

I've heard some horrendous stories about Santander. I wouldn't go near them with my money. No way.

Just a suggestion but from my recent experience with the FOS:

I had a problem with an insurance company that owed me some money from about 7 years ago. It was partly my fault but I had never got round to chasing up after being stonewalled some years back. So I got on to the FOS helpline just to find out whether any claim I might have would have "timed out" or whether I could still pursue it.

The guy on the FOS consumer helpline was clear and concise with his advice and then offered to contact the insurance company on my behalf! Within a week I had a named complaint handler from the insurance co. contacting me and within 2 weeks a full refund of 6 years premiums and a small amount for my inconvenience.

On the "how to complain" section of the FOS website they do offer to contact the bank directly on your behalf so it might stir Santander up a bit even if it's not their fault!

I have had to deal with disgruntled employees, and creditors who did not know where their payments had gone to - Santander are definitely down there at the bottom of the pit.

Santander are god aweful. I won't go into the details, but I will never deal with any company that is any way affiliated with them.

If you bank with them, my advise is to take your money and run.
