Yes
Me again, with yet another problem...
I have just installed my new SSD and done a clean install of W7.
I installed all 89 essential updates and now have a problem - each time I start the pc it tries to install the updates but gets to a point then says there is a problem configuring windows so reverts to the previous point. This takes about 3-4 minutes, and rather negates any advantage of having an SSD !

Does anyone know what it might be ?
The updates go back to late last year, but I assume it is a recent one

Yes, I could work my way through all 89 updates to see which one it is, but one of you guys may know if there is a well known problem - I have to say I also noticed my main pc doing the same thing a few days or maybe a week ago but without really knowing what I am doing I just did a restore which seemed to work but cannot remember how far back I restored it (I have now turned off automatic updates...!)

If anyone can help but needs more info please explain it in small words that I may understand...

Many thanks,

Frustrated old man

Yes I've had major problems with it. The most recent update (13/9) is the source.

Programs not responding, windows not shutting down, unable to open programs etc etc.

I've done a system restore, but it has still ****** the whole thing up !

The problems is trying to install all/to many updates at once.

The best way to install windows updates is one by one

I know that's probably not what you wanted to here but my self and many others have had similar problems to yourself and the above is the way to go

Blimey. Doesn't take you guys long to come to my rescue !
Thanks for the help - I have just started to install the oldest ones 5 at a time but will slow down to one at a time when I get to this years updates.
Much appreciated all !

Oh, and I assume I need to restart after every update ?
Thank goodness I have an sdd !

Let it do its thing

personally I re-boot even if it isn't done automatically by an update

Well, I am down to the last 2 updates....!

Update Rollup for ActiveX Killbits for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2736233)

Download size: 49 KB

Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 - September 2012 (KB890830)

Download size: 16.7 MB

Which one should I go for - any gamblers out there..?

Neil, or should that be Saint Neil, who has helped me with all my computer problems recently - I assume SP1 would show up as one of the important downloads or is it something I need to find and download ?

Just been checking and SP1 is already installed.
Right, time to go for one of the remaining two - wish me luck fellas !

So, the one remaining one that I have not tried yet is the malicious software removal tool.

I'll try to remove it later on my main pc to see if that fixes it.

Got to feed the kids now..
