Yes
Have any of you ever used FreeBSD ? I've been using Linux exclusively in various flavors for the past 12 years or so and I have an oldish desktop coming my way which I may try FreeBSD on.

Thank all

I'm told its about 5 years old buts that's all I know at this point. I tend to use light weight Linux distros with old PC's keeping costs down and speeds up. This will (if it turns up) quite a new PC for me anyway.

If you've used a Mac with OS-X then you've pretty much used Free-BSD. The Apple operating system is based on chunks of it. The two have diverged a lot but the basics are still there. Free BSD (as the name suggests) is based on the Berkeley Software Distribution while Linux is more akin to UNIX System V. I find that moving from one to the other can mean a fair amount of typing 'man'; switches even on common tools can vary just enough to catch you out.
