Anyone ever found a changed footpath?

We've been living up here since 1990, and shortly after arriving, we bought an ordnance survey map of the area for footpath information. This afternoon we went for a new walk up near Banbury, but found the footpath signs missing, a barbed wire fence in the way and eventually no tunnel below the M40 to allow us to cross beneath, though there are indications that there was once such a tunnel, now filled over with earth & planted with trees! Looking on the local council map I can see an alternative route has been instituted that does not pass through these fields & connects up with where the path would originally have passed below the motorway. It's all quite curious - probably above board, but this is the first time I've ever come across such a change.

At least we had a good walk in the sunshine. :)

Yep. There's a change to an oldish footpath (it used to be the old railway that was closed in the early 60's) along the Water of Leith at Juniper Green.
A housing development closed the footpath but they did make a new one. The new one has been well prepared and landscaped, so can't complain.

Not uncommon, the council will have a definitive rights of way map. Norfolk has theirs online, I imagine many other counties do too.

Yeh, it happens quite frequently. After being a hiker for well over 40 years I have lost count of the times paths have 'disappeared'.
Not too bad if they have been detoured and signed, It often happens that they have been blocked off illegally and an email to the footpath officer, Highways section
on the local council with map ref, photo's etc, will often sort things out, but not always!
Fylde council have never even replied to any email, (several over 5 years) or inspected the path/right of way, or, more importantly, rectified the problem.

Generally the farmers around here are good, even spraying crops with herbicide to create a path across their fields as they are meant to. There was no sign up in this case to show the path had gone, but there may have been once & it's been too long.
