Yes
Have seen a few of these pop up on FB - quick search suggests lots of PPI style companies offering this on the same no-win no-fee basis. Has anyone on here done this, if so any recommendations on who to use? I recently did a PPI claim after being recommended a company and did actually get a few hundred back after fees.

For the compensation of what loss exactly?
Loss of power, increased fuel consumption, some people's cars are constantly breaking down since having been "fixed".
The no win no fee firms are usually looking at representing a group of owners enmass rather than on a case by case basis.

Nope. Emissions version of ambulance chasing if you ask me.

Ours has been fixed, made no difference whatsoever which is understandable due to the software issue it was fixing.

People will hinge any future problem on something that’s not their fault (ie the ems software update), they’ll then try and claim compensation for it. Personally I can’t see why I’d sue VW for reducing my annual VED cost.

Maybe it’s the government that should be sueing for lost VED income?

I bought a car because they told me certain things about it. Afterwards, it turned out that they lied. The day they were caught lying the value of my car fell by a measurable amount. If they had told the truth it's likely I would have bought a different car.

So....they deliberately misled me and as a result they made a sale and I was damaged by a specific financial amount. I'm pretty sure that deserves compensation.

But no. I didn't even bother getting it fixed. I just sold it and decided not to buy any of their cars again.

I probably directly lost £1-200 selling mine because of the drop in the perceived value. I was also feeding their fraudulent exces with my money when it could have gone to another more faithful company if such a thing exists. And certainly I'm not happy with their botched "fix" to allowed it near my car. Furthermore I blame them for effectively killing great diesel cars and the loss is incalculable here. In real life I don't expect much more than a symbolic sum but frankly this should set a precedent similar to US. They always get the compensations for everything wrong and we never do.

To clarify my point earlier.. If this has actually cost you money then fair enough try and claim that figure back. I'm not sure how youd reasonably state a depreciation figure due to this over other factors however.

As someone else said I get the feeling though that it's the ppi situation all over though where some will use it to get free cash above and beyond what may be due.

Please don't wish for this country to become even more like the US.

You've clearly not experienced the current blame culture within this country.

Real world losses, if any, should be repaid imo.
I don't believe it warrants additional compensation.

Parkers (and others) publish prices for used vehicles. It should be very easy to chart the drop in prices on vehicles not affected by this deceit and ones that were. Punch in some seasonality and add on (say) 10% to err on the side of the consumer. Shove it into R or a lift chart or whatever the cool kidz are using these days and you have a number.

There are plenty of people who do sums like this every day. It's not a very hard one.

Gut feel is that it would be somewhere between 5 and 10% of the residual value of the vehicle at the point they were caught. But there are people with copies of Excel who could get you closer.
