Not that I have a lot but have you guys been getting payments through from MOL?
 
after an initial problem start of season i suddenly got paid OK .. one show I got paid the following week.. that was a rare.. however not had anything in there for yonks.. becoming a wast of time really:(
 
well done to even get an image in there lately Rob!, they have clamped down hugely on usages after a hard word from above saying "only images by pre paid agencies to be used unless desperate" ie AI,PA,Getty :(

I no longer send my RL images to them, (just a ball picture as that seems to be the normal use nowadays :( ). As for payment, I found I had to chase up a great deal to get them to cough up & I'm still owed a couple through FIL but I've written them off now, (small head shots), as it's not worth the hassle!, I'll just not supply them anymore, sorted!. Kind regards Graham.

So thats why I havent had owt in for yonks as I said. I wasnt aware of that.. I will keep the email in the list when I send out just in case..

However to be honest.. Theres only the SUN that seems to use on spec.. had an odd one in daily mirror but mostly its the SUN .. in fact if they stopped then I probably wouldn't bother sending any out at all on spec :(
 
I only had one in The Mirror all season - mainly Sun, Star and a few in Express and Telegraph when on spec.
 
Is the amount of photos that freelance togs are submitting on spec to the nationals in decline then? if so what would the numbers involved be?

However to answer your question I would hazzard a guess that more than ever is being submitted to the nationals. Have a look at any Prem games and see how many photographers there are.

Take out the agencies with contracts, like Getty, Action, BPI and you will still see plenty of photographers. Some will be club photographers and some will be on other commissions - i.e. local papers but still lots of images going out on spec.

At Championship games, look at the teams near the top of the league and again plenty of big agencies etc on commissions, and plenty on spec.

Come to Oakwell & The Keepmoat on a wet Tuesday night and not so many.

As some photographers give up others come through to give it a go.

I suspect that it will remain the same for a while yet. But if photographers get fewer and fewer used on spec, then the numbers will decline.

n.b. all my own guess work that is.
 
Prem games in the north west are dominated by the bigger agencies, especially Getty. There only seem to be a handful of the nationals sending their own snappers but there are still plenty of smaller agencies at games. Tend not to see too many freelances with their own DataCo licences. My take on this is that there is plenty of spec stuff around still but mainly from the smaller agencies with photographers who are working purely on commission.
 
I very rarely do on spec games nowerdays.. PNE but thats just me being cheap getting in as a preston fan.. plus had a fair bit of luck wiht them.. blackburn rovers now and then also havent done too bad and litrally on my doorstep... I dont bother with any others on spec.. Commission or dont bother... Got a meeeting after fixtures out and presumably will be doing all the accy stanley games for local papers (x2) next season.....

I know my agency have had a few problems getting payments from them this season!
