For me - the AIPS (International Sports Press Card) card.
Especially useful for me for all the games I do in Europe and big Championships. Given me discounts on flights to far away places - not often but still.
In the UK - AIPS card.. not very useful. But it does help sometimes..

Been a member for such a short time that can't comment about any benefits in being a member.
For me the reason to get a membership was the AIPS card...

saves you money on flights... thats a good answer mate.. not good for a big wuss like me who wont get on a plane..

Anyone else? :)

so apart from cheap flights ....nothing? not even members got anyhting good to say..

SJA membership allows you to apply for AIPS card which alongside the Football League/Premier League ID cards issued by Dataco are the only forms of ID accepted for the I-PBS system (to my knowledge)

how many cards do you need?

I use a UK Press card.. so thats three types then? :)

So discount on air travel and allows you to apply for a card.. apply not get..

starting to sound like a bit of a con to me.... anything else?

See that why it is everyone's own choice whether to join in.. for some it helps.. some it doesn't - to be a member of any organisation.

SJA do also give you discounted offers (journalism related) on occasions...
You can also get legal advice - not something that's handy for me (knock on wood)...
Also for those of us who attend bigger events (World Championships, Olympics..) it funny how often being a member of certain organisations helps your application jump forward in the line.
As with any organsation - there is help available career/training wise.. (I know, you and me and getting too old for training Kipax :p )

When it comes to press-cards.. who's countin?
I have one for BBL, one for Football League, one for Cricket, one for Finnish Ice Hockey, one for Finnish Football, Finnish Press card, SJA membership card and then the AIPS card...
By far the most useful of these has been the AIPS card - on occasions if I have forgot my Football League card home when going into a game.. they have gladly accepted my AIPS card as a proof of 'id'.

And paying couple of tenners a year to be member.. for me, it does justify the cost.. but as said, my 'territory' of travel due to work is rather large.

If I would be working on a small area/locally with clients/clubs/people I know.. then maybe there would not be a need to be a member of national organisations..

Aaah, and of course you get to vote for the Sports Awards every year..
