Anybody use Nikon Transfer & ViewNX in workflow?

I just reinstalled my Vista (the first reinstallation since when I bought the pc over two years ago) and I came across a disc with Nikon's software on it.

Was wondering if anybody actually uses these programs (be it individually or together) in their workflow. Mind sharing your technique/workflow?

Never even took them out of the packaging :)

I use the entire Nikon suite - including Capture NX2 as well.

Transfer > ViewNX > CaptureNX > Photoshop (if required).

Only worth doing if you are processing raw files. The main advantage of Transfer is it will embed IPTC info (tags etc) into the raw (.NEF) file during a copy. ViewNX is pretty quick for doing a rough sort through images. Capture needs a beefy machine to run, but it's output is excellent.

I never got on with Lightroom, which will do most of the above in one package.
 
I don't use Transfer or ViewNX - maybe I should have look at them!

After copying to computer I sort my photos using Faststone Image Viewer and have the 'open with' link set to open photos for editing in Capture NX2.

There are times when I go raw and times when I go jpeg (for simplicity) and I've heard viewNX processes NEFs a bit better than Lightroom.

Otherwise I've always copy/pasted the files into a directory and then just uploaded them into Lightroom 2 for processing/sorting and eventually exporting.

Was wondering if maybe there's a nice workflow that would include these programs and make life simpler.

Ultimately Photoshop but on individual files that would like to be pampered.
 
I just use Capture NX2.
The browser is good for sorting through images and you can add ratings and labels.
You can also batch copy XMP/IPTC metadata from one image to other images.
 
I use TransferNX since it backs up soon as I put the card in and also sorts them into dated folders. Picasa instead of ViewNX since the interface is a lot better and it automatically scans folders for new images. I did use the CaptureNX trial but NiksSoftware offers a control point based plugin for Ps and means I don't have to switch between the two apps.
 
I use the whole Nikon suite, does my downloading archiving tweaking no complaints here. :)

Photoshop would be nice I can even afford it but just for an amateur togger Nikon software is just fine.
 
I used to use Nikon Transfer until I got Lightroom. I found ViewNX frustratingly inadequate, Photoshop Elements was better, but if you need to get the best out of a NEF file then Capture NX2 beats all comers.
 
I use ViewNX and CaptureNX for NEF(RAW) files. For transferring from card to PC I use the standard file transfer facilities.
