Hi,
I've got this lens (the OS version) and use it as a walkabout, its zoom range is very versatile but the downside is its a bit on the "slow" side, but great in good light.
I use one all the time as my go-anywhere do-anything lens. It's a bit soft beyond about 150mm, and it needs good light, but in good conditions it gets the job done.
The bokeh can be a bit ugly:
But it is sharp in the right conditions: this is a 100% crop.
Having said that, I'm planning to upgrade to the OS version, which appears to be better in every respect.
I just picked one up from a member on here, and love it. As a walk around lens its great, ticks all the boxes. Like said it can be a little slow to react, but the results I have had so far are very pleasing.
personally i think it's a great all rounder, just excuse the poor editing of the last image, it was taken and edited last year before i knew half the possibilities of the programmes i was using lol
one thing i have noticed is that when using the OS i tend to get soft images so i very rarely use it
I am considering getting one of these instead of a Nikon 18-200mm. Have you compared the Siggy against the Canon equivalent? If it's anything like the Nikon then the price different will probably be the main differentiating factor...
i haven't personally but reading the reviews it is basically down to budget and labels, since it's a super zoom lens your never going to have the quality of a prime lens, it's like any one size fits all item, it works for some but not all.
Agreed - It's all about compromise. Good for when you can only take one lens on a trip, but most other times I personally would want my range of lenses in my bag.
