I'm looking for an old type 2 mcb at 40a

Just upgraded my shower unit and need a bigger mcb to suit, I don't want to replace the entire consumer unit.

Not a qualified sparky, but I have a box of electrical fittings out in the garage, and more at my parents place. I'll take a look for you - if I've ever upgraded anything I've never chucked it away
If I've not got any kicking around, then I'll call our wholesalers (CEF and WF Electrical are the main ones we use) and I'll see if they've got any and pop one in the post to you

Cheers m8, I've got a CEF here and worst comes to worst I'll go try them on Monday. I used to deal with them when I was in business, they are primarily responsible for Inverness's reputation as ripoff city though. There's a couple of other electrical wholesalers I can try but the age of the part makes me think I'm in for a hard time finding one. No problem getting newer ones but of course they don't fit.

Basically the (7.5kw) shower has been connected via a 30amp mcb until now, the new 9.5kw one needs a 40amp.

Even 40amps is going to be right on the limit for a 9.5kw load, but if you got away with 7.5kw on 30A then you'll probably be alright.
I had a look, but the only 40A breaker I could find was this:

The only other idea I had was to take a feed from your current distribution box in to a small 1/2way box, and hook that up to your shower feed? I presume the cable going to your bathroom is capable of handling the load?

If this breaker's of any use to you, you're welcome to have it.
Otherwise, Ebay could be an option

Thanks Mark, 40A is the reccomended size and yes the cable is 10mil so quite capable of taking the load. Your mcb there looks to be a type c I have a type B here which I bought before I knew there was a difference in fitting.
I've been looking on eBay too, I have not managed to find a 40a type 2 though cheers.

The breakers in the ebay link in my last post - neither of them any good?

Otherwise a small 1/2-way box (I know WF electrical do them) with a type B MCB in there on it's own, with a feed off the 100A inlet to your existing box is probably going to be the easiest way to do it.

The ones on eBay are Type B, same as the one I already have so no go there. I've searched through RS components, screwfix, toolbox, so I will try the local electrical factors on Monday maybe even the Plumbing suppliers, you never know I might get lucky.
