hi there, i recently had a print done as a test really, i am on a btec3 college course part time and will be producing two images for exhibition at the end. Well i am really happy with the test, apart from a very slight white border across the top, but that's no big deal. so i want it on my wall lol. So..... i got a 20x30 poster printed on Fujifilm 249gsm silver halide paper, Matt.
I have back rolled it to get it flat and got some black 5mm foamcore board to mount it, a bit like the alloy mounted prints you see.
I am guessing Its going to be a job for some fast tack mounting spray and a careful unrolling onto the board? I don't want to stuff this up so if anyone has done this before i would be grateful for a heads up.

The best option would of been to get the lab to mount it - as they have machines to ensure its done perfectly - however the cost of mounting if often 3 times the cost of the print.

Generally you cut the foam board slightly smaller - so that once the print is mounted you put the print face down on a hard surface such as a sheet of MDF - then trim round the outside so the print is neat to the edge.

3M make two different types of spray mount which are common - red and blue - one is permanent the other can be lifted and relaid for a while till the bond is permanent (perhaps the better choice). Spray the board, not the print, then put print down on short edge and smooth with dry soft cloth - then work your way across smoothing as you go.

I've got the blue can, used it plenty and its ok good! Lol
Not sure if I've got a faulty nozzle tho cos its always come out a little bit like silly string!?
Thanks for the advice though
I got the print from photobox so sending it back for mounting would be a waste of time and money.
Would soft rollers such as the sponge ones for gloss paint be any help in case i get bubbles?

You're supposed to turn the can upside down and spray till it comes out clear.
shake it up well.
If you're mounting a print on a board and leaving a border, then you should spray the print, not the mount unless you use masking tape but take it off very carefully so as not to tear it.
It's a bad way to do it because you only get one chance . . . . .
