Just wondering if there are any members using the strobist method of lighting as opposed to studio flash?

If so what kit do you use and why?

It seems to be a great way to light the scene but I'm unsure what to invest in.

I'm looking at getting old speedlights mabye a sb-26 or somthing and some radio triggers......

advice greatly welcomed !

thanks

A friend of mine has been looking at this for a while and the problem is that the site is rather popular so has had the affect of pushing prices of old flashes on ebay up to silly amounts as everyone is looking for them.

Good luck in your search

I kind of am!

I use my wifes 550EX as master and my 430EX as slave both on manual. I purchased a trigger off of ebay (Transmitter and Receiver) and works a treat. The 550EX is triggered remotely which fires the 430EX. Although I am scared of dropping or banging them as they are not the best quality!! I couldn't afford the Canon versions or the Pocket Wizard ones.

I have also bought umbrella adapters which allow the flash to be mounted on a flash stand with a umbrella. We have studio lights but I much prefer the small strobes now as they are much more portable and if required I can hold the flash gun off camera.

I haven't had much chance to use them recently which is quite frustrating but things are settling down here abit so I will have a chance to use them.

Ross is correct in saying the prices for the Nikon SB range or the Vivitar range are rising due to the popularity of the site. I have been keeping an eye out for a third flash but don't really want to spend too much. I'm not desparate so I will hang on for a bargain.

You should be able to get away with one flash though with appropriate reflectors etc so perhaps fork out for a new Sigma or Canon £150 ish and then keep an eye out for a 2nd hand 2nd stobe?
