Hi

First Post. Have just recently retired and now have time to develop my interest in this wonderful hobby.

Have just purchased, as a first and mainly learning camera, a Canon 1200d with the standard 18 55mm III lens of which I feel as though I will soon need to upgrade to a more versitile one stop walkabout lens with a bit more zoom length.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated

The Canon 18 - 135mm is a decent lens in spite of mine having come as a 'kit lens' with one of my cameras. I have other lenses for specific purposes but the 18 - 135 is the do everythig one I take hill walking as it's not too big and not too heavy, and it doesn't sacrifice the short end of the range. The only down side is it's an EF-S lens, so will only fit a crop sensor camera (in case you were contemplating the possibility of one day moving up to full frame).

As Jannyfox says the 18 - 135mm is a reasonable lens for a Crop - Sensor body. An additional benefit is that it is IS and STM, which makes it very suitable for video as is it silent and Image Stabilised. It is I feel better to spend your money on good lenses, rather than bodies as the depreciation is less.

The discontinued Canon EF-s 15-85 is a good walk around lens during the day. You can pick them up s/h for around £200, it’s pretty sharp and fast focusing.
