Interesting stuff really. They have released their new album independently available for download on their interwebs.

Heres the catch, you can pay for it whatever you feel from a penny to a hundred pounds (and a 48p card transaction).

But yeh. Just thought I'd bring this to the attention of those who didn't know.

I think it's a great idea tbh. Should give a good indication as to whether the honor system can offer some sort of combat to .mp3 pirating (arrrrrrrrrrr). Plus, Radiohead rock :P. I shall be buying the box set for the artwork (bragbragbrag).

Probably the greatest band I've heard bar none! Interesting concept!

The regular CD is released in normal format next year...

The box set is about £40 I hear!!

It's an interesting idea but you should be able to download it then pay.

If I pay £5 and think it's really good I'd feel cheap & conversley if I think it's poor then I'll feel ripped off.

Bands should have 'low' bitrate copies to sample then you pay what you feel it's worth for the 'full' bitrate versions.

People would still pirate it though :(

What bitrate is the download for the album?

I tend to download some mp3z off an album then if it's good will buy the cd. Can't be doing with crap quality mp3z.

Downloaded 'flac' Metallica album off their live site that was good quality but 30-40mb a file or something like that so takes a while to download.

Thats hardly different to buying a CD. If you bought a CD in HMV and thought its poor you'd feel ripped off too. It would have been nice if RH had a preview of their album. Maybe this was part of the experiment. Interestingly enough, on one of the webs largest music sharing sites they are banning the RH mp3s because they are only 160kbps. Their rules state no lower than 192kbps. Its a funny turn of events really. I imagine it is out there. Personally I paid £5 for it. I feel its a solid album, but too atmospheric to really hit me in the face with any wow factor.
