I've got a new kitchen monobloc tap and instead of the normal stud that screws into the body next to the tails, with a nut to secure the tap to the sink, this one has a wierd arrangement.

There is a large tube with an external thread screwed into the tap body with the tails coming out. There is a large back nut which screws onto this tube and secures the tap to the sink.
However the backnut is over 40mm across the flats which is much larger than my basin spanners. It also has 2 screws in it.

The instructions say that you need a screwdriver and an adjustable spanner but they do not mention a basin spanner or a box spanner for the backnut.

My question is do I remove the screws from the backnut and struggle under the sink to get it as tight as possible to fix the tap body firmly before replacing the screws so that they prevent the backnut loosening or do I tighten the backnut as much as I can by hand and then tighten the screws to fix the tap body firmly.

Apologies for the phone pics. I don't want to take the backnut out of the sealed bag as I may return the tap

One of THESE MIGHT be what you need. Failing that, I'd call a plumber.

I would back the screws out so that they don't protrude through the face of the backnut where it touches the sink, then do it up by hand as tight as I could comfortably get it, using the screws sticking out of the underside as leverage. Once it's all snug, wind the screws inwards to hold it in place.

Thanks for the replies
The box spanner is no good as it is too large, the video shows a "standard" stud and nut fixing - I have a set of monobloc spanners for those.
The fitting is similar to those on single pillar taps BUT the backnut is much larger, I have basin spanners for the normal sizes, and there are the 2 screws in the backnut which I have never seen before.
Toni's suggestion is one of the options I considered but I really wanted confirmation from someone who has experience of this type of fitting.

My next port of call would be a plumbers merchants. Take it with you and see what they say...

I have asked the supplier as I ordered a tap called Davenport which is what I have already and could easily fit. The tap supplied has Davenport on the box label but the instructions are titled Davina and has a different fixing. I have asked them for clarification and how to fit it, but as just a retail supplier they may not know.

The instructions included a place to get any spares and I have also asked them if they have any advice on how to fit it.

Have a look at several youtube videos of kitchen tap installation and the chances are that one of them will show the type of fixing yours has.

I looked through numerous videos etc and they all showed the threaded stud and nut fixing.

I received replies from both the original suppler and the spares supplier who both said to tighten the backnut by hand and then use the 2 screws to pull the tap body onto the sink surface.

All installed OK and working with no leaks :)

Thanks for all the comments / advice

Glad you're sorted.
