any parents with children in secondary education?

hello,
I'm after a little help if I may,
I am currently studying for a PGCE in design and technology and i have a few assignments that I need to complete.

I was wondering if any of the parents could provide me with a couple of lines (no more than a paragraph) on what that you feel Design and Technology (in any of its forms- graphics, food tech, resistant materials, textiles, control systems, product design etc) provides within the curriculum and what you feel it provides for your childs/childrens education.

If you could also provide me with what year your child is in at school that would also help as i could then aim to get a cross section of year groups.
