Im based in Belfast northern ireland and im looking for worth while sites to visit.

I would like to photograph some mammals, red squirrels, foxes hares etc and birds of prey.

I have a few spots in Co.Antrim and Down where i can regurlarly get kestrels and Buzzards but would interested in discovering a few other species and also getting closer to the ones i have found.

Cheers for any info.

Not a wildlife tog and hopefully some will come along with more info - but there used to be red squirrels in Belvoir Forest, I worked there for a while a few years ago and we were able to watch them stealing from the bird feeders just outside the window while we had our morning coffee. That got to be a rarer sight though and not sure if there are any there now but might be worth checking.

Hi Neil,
Only just found this forum so sorry for the late reply.
For red squirrels the only place I know is Tullymore forest park. The nearby Castlewellan Park also has the newly introduced Red Kites with a 5ft wing span well worth a visit. At home we have buzzards, kestrels, merlin, sparrow hawks, Last winter a perigrine falcon for a few mths and it is a stronghold for Irish hares. Also good chances of foxes and badgers if you time it right and know where to look.
I would prefer not to give the location for hares on the web as we had unwanted visitors lamping. Not suggesting for a minute you would do this but never know who is reading forums. If interested pm me and I will let you know where best to look.

John.

Prehen woods and golf course have lots of red squirrels

Oxford Island in Craigavon is my preferred spot for wildlife. Bit of a journey from Belfast for you though.
