When I have been looking at Google Earth, there always seem to be a few of them in San Diego Bay. If you go North of this location to the end of the bay, there is the USS Midway museum with an interesting collection of aircraft on the flight deck and two modern carriers with full flight decks - USS 70 Carl Vinson and USS 72 Abraham Lincoln.

Some of these Littoral class ships (mono hull) are being scrapped, despite having just been commissioned in the last few years. The multi-hull variants are beset with problems too.

The chief of the U.S. Navy defended the service's plans to scrap nine relatively new warships in the coming fiscal year even as the service tries to keep up with China's growing fleet. Three of the littoral combat ships slated for decommissioning are less than three years old.
